“The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me”.

Pure devotees, whose characteristics are mentioned here, engage themselves fully in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. Their minds cannot be diverted from the lotus feet of Krishna. Their talks are solely on the transcendental subjects. The symptoms of the pure devotees are described in this verse specifically. Devotees of the Supreme Lord are twenty-four hours daily engaged in glorifying the qualities and pastimes of the Supreme Lord. Their hearts and souls are constantly submerged in Krishna, and they take pleasure in discussing Him with other devotees.”

Why would devotees focus all of their attention on Krishna? That’s the question. In this world everybody focuses their attention on money or politics or sports. So why do the devotees focus all their attention on Krishna? Is it that they feel guilty that, “if I don’t do it, I am a sinner”?  Actually, that is not the reason that the devotees like to think about Krishna. The reason the devotees like to think about Krishna, talk about Krishna, serve Krishna is that it is absolutely the most ecstatic thing you can do.

The devotees are connoisseurs of enjoyment. They know how to enjoy, better than anybody else. Everybody else’s enjoyment is low class. Krishna consciousness is high class enjoyment. Only a person who has not tasted high class enjoyment could ever be satisfied with low class enjoyment. Once you experience the high class enjoyment of Krishna consciousness, you won’t want any other pleasure. This is why the devotees exclusively spend their days, their nights, weekends and holidays, all the time in Krishna consciousness. Just like now, I am travelling around the world. An ordinary materialistic person who is travelling is trying to see all the sights, “I am going to be on vacation, on a holiday. I am going to see all the sights. I will go to the Eiffel Tower. I will go to the Pyramids. When I go to India, I will go to the Taj Mahal.” That is a normal materialistic person who is travelling all over the world. That is what he wants to do. He wants to see all of the famous tourist attractions. But when a Hare Krishna devotee travels all over the world what does he want to do? His only desire is to meet other people who are interested in Krishna. And why does he want to meet other people who are interested in Krishna? That question is answered by this verse.

“The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me”.

The more you can hear about Krishna from a realised person, the light of Krishna conscious will become more and more bright in your heart. That shining torchlight of knowledge of Krishna consciousness within your heart will completely destroy all the darkness within your heart. You will become a fully enlightened spiritual being. And the key… the interesting thing about this is that the means of achieving the goal and the goal itself are actually the same.

The goal is to be 24 hours a day absorbed in Krishna conscious. That is the goal and the method of achieving that state of consciousness is to engage yourself 24 hours a day in Krishna conscious. In the beginning stages it requires practice and discipline, but once you achieve the perfection it becomes automatic and spontaneous. So that is why we have come here to Turkey. We want to give you the training of how to practice Krishna consciousness 24 hours a day, whether you are at home with your wife and children, whether you are at your place of business, or whether you are with the devotees of Krishna. Your business, your duty, your responsibility, it is exactly the same thing: remain always fully engaged in Krishna conscious.

Are there any questions?

Question 1: Regarding being 24 hours in Krishna conscious, have you no desire to see any historical places in Turkey  or to go to a bazaar, seeing how Turkish people are living or drinking tea with them?

Answer: The fact is there are two ways you can relate with history. The first way is you study history. The 2nd method is you can make history. So I find making history a lot more interesting than studying it. Yes, I have come to your country to make a spiritual revolution. This is far more interesting than studying somebody else’s stupid, nonsensical activities.

Question 2: Won’t a Krishna conscious person take pleasure in going out to the seaside and seeing Krishna in the Bosporus also?

Answer: Actually I can tell you today we took … I wanted to see a little of Turkey, so we took a walk down to the Bosporus today and when we got to the Bosporus, the 3 of us sat and we had a conversation about how we can make the entire city of Istanbul Krishna conscious. So if a devotee goes out to see the culture, he is going to see “how I can revolutionize it”. In the US, I produce a TV show. So tomorrow I will go back down to the Bosporus and film a segment for our television show, because the general public is attracted to some foreign exotic place like Istanbul.

The verse says, “The thoughts of my pure devotees dwell in Me.” That means the devotee who is not very advanced in Krishna consciousness, he may be interested in material nature. But a pure devotee, one who is advanced in Krishna conscious is only interested in Krishna.

So one who is actually advanced in Krishna consciousness, he is not so interested in material nature.

Question 3: He wants to understand whether a Krishna conscious person cannot have a taste for making a flower vase or making nice dishes.

Answer: Yes, everything is done in relation to Lord Krishna. You make a nice flower arrangement for Krishna and then it becomes more beautiful and you all can also enjoy. Krishna is the primary enjoyer and the devotee he is the secondary enjoyer.

Question 4: When we are looking at any flowers we think about this is Krishna, He made this.

Answer: Therefore you should think that Krishna has made this and therefore it should be used for Krishna’s enjoyment. It belongs to Krishna.  You shouldn’t think, “Oh! Krishna has given me such nice enjoyment.” Krishna has made this now it should be offered to Him for His enjoyment.

Question 5: Historical place if you see also, we feel enjoyment.

Answer: How much enjoyment do you actually feel? That enjoyment is limited. So if all you do is go after that limited pleasure you are cheating yourself out of happiness. So do not cheat yourself out of happiness. Learn the art of how to see everything in relation to Krishna and to use everything for Krishna’s pleasure.
