Spit at the Thought of Sex

Today we are reading from Srimad Bhagavatam 7 canto, chapter 9 ‘Prahlada Pacifies Lord Nrsimhadeva with Prayers’, text 45.

Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya

[Gurudeva is singing 3 times and devotees repeat] 

yan maithunadi-grhamedhi-sukham hi tuccham
kanduyanena karayor iva duhkha-duhkham
trpyanti neha krpana bahu-duhkha-bhajah
kandutivan manasijam visaheta dhirah


yat—that which (is meant for material sense gratification); maithuna-adi—represented by talking of sex, reading sexual literature or enjoying sex life (at home or outside, as in a club); grhamedhi-sukham—all types of material happiness based on attachment to family, society, friendship, etc.; hi—indeed; tuccham—insignificant; kanduyanena—with the itching; karayoh—of the two hands (to relieve the itching); iva—like; duhkha-duhkham—different types of unhappiness (into which one is put after such itching sense gratification); trpyanti—become satisfied; na—never; iha—in material sense gratification; krpanah—the foolish persons; bahu-duhkha-bhajah—subjected to various types of material unhappiness; kanduti-vat—if one can learn from such itching; manasi-jam—which is simply a mental concoction (actually there is no happiness); visaheta—and tolerates (such itching); dhirah—(he can become) a most perfect, sober person.


Sex life is compared to the rubbing of two hands to relieve an itch. Grhamedhis, so-called grhasthas who have no spiritual knowledge, think that this itching is the greatest platform of happiness, although actually it is a source of distress. The krpanas, the fools who are just the opposite of brahmanas, are not satisfied by repeated sensuous enjoyment. Those who are dhira, however, who are sober and who tolerate this itching, are not subjected to the sufferings of fools and rascals.



Materialists think that sexual indulgence is the greatest happiness in this material world, and therefore they make elaborate plans to satisfy their senses, especially the genitals. This is generally found everywhere, and specifically found in the Western world, where there are regular arrangements to satisfy sex life in different ways. Actually, however, this has not made anyone happy. Even the hippies, who have given up all the materialistic comforts of their fathers and grandfathers, cannot give up the sensational happiness of sex life. Such persons are described here as krpanas, misers. The human form of life is a great asset, for in this life one can fulfill the goal of existence. Unfortunately, however, because of a lack of education and culture, people are victimized by the false happiness of sex life. Prahlada Maharaja therefore advises one not to be misled by this civilization of sense gratification, and especially not by sex life. Rather, one should be sober, avoid sense gratification and be Krsna conscious. The lusty person, who is compared to a foolish miser, never gets happiness by sense gratification. The influence of material nature is very difficult to surpass, but as stated by Krsna in Bhagavad-gita (7.14), mam eva ye prapadyante, mayam etam taranti te: if one voluntarily submits to the lotus feet of Krsna, he can be saved very easily.

In reference to the low-grade happiness of sex life, Yamunacarya says in this connection:

yad-avadhi mama cetah krsna-padaravinde
nava-nava-rasa-dhamany udyatam rantum asit
tad-avadhi bata nari-sangame smaryamane
bhavati mukha-vikarah susthu nisthivanam ca

"Since I have been engaged in the transcendental loving service of Krsna, realizing ever-new pleasure in Him, whenever I think of sex pleasure, I spit at the thought, and my lips curl with distaste." Yamunacarya had formerly been a great king who enjoyed sexual happiness in various ways, but since he later engaged himself in the service of the Lord, he enjoyed spiritual bliss and hated to think of sex life. If sexual thoughts came to him, he would spit with disgust. [End of purport]


vande 'ham sri-guroh sri-yuta-pada-kamalam sri-gurun vaisnavams ca
sri-rupam sagrajatam saha-gana-raghunathanvitam tam sa-jivam
sadvaitam savadhutam parijana-sahitam krsna-caitanya-devam
sri-radha-krsna-padan saha-gana-lalita-sri-visakhanvitams ca

This is a very favorite verse of Srila Prabhupada, yan maithunadi-grhamedhi-sukham hi tuccham. When Prabhupada would say, tuccham, it was like he was spitting with disgust, tuccham very nicely, Prabhupada would say. He was walking on the Venice beach in Los Angles, he would often walk there with my Godbrother Svarup Damodar prabhu who became Bhakti Svarup Damodar Maharaja. He was a PhD scientist in Biology.

So Srila Prabhupada would engage him in. Bhakti Svarup Damodar Maharaja would play the role of the scientist and Prabhupada would smash the arguments. It was very lively. They made that book, “Life comes from Life.”

I remember, Prabhupada was talking this very point that morning on the beach and Svarup Damodar he raised the objection of the scientists. Prabhupada said, “That is the position of sex that how nasty it is” and Svarup Damodar said, “But, how to continue the species?” And Prabhupada said, “You finish it, this condemn world.”

So Prabhupada didn’t back down one inch on this point, disgusting nature of sex pleasure. Of course, that sex pleasure as we know can be utilized in producing saintly children.

“I am the strength of the strong, devoid of passion and desire. I am sex life which is not contrary to religious principles, O lord of the Bharatas [Arjuna].”

Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur even though he was staunched naistiska brahmacari, he said, “I am prepared to have sex life one hundred times if I can produce saintly children.”

So, this verse is not to discourage household life according the religious principle. But even that household life utilizing sex according to the religious principle it is given up. Nowadays they call it sex education; they teach the children how to have safe sex using condoms. But the real sex education means how to give up sex life, that’s all. That is the real meaning of sex education of how to give it up. If you can’t be a brahmacari alright then you become married, peacefully you raise some Krishna conscious children and finish it.

 In every asrama one is meant to give up sex life. So some outsider may ask, “Why are you people so down on sex life I mean, common, its lot of fun. My greatest pleasure is sex why you people are against sex pleasure? Common, it’s so much fun really enjoyable after the hard day at the office I come home and I have sex and I feel really relieved. I mean common, why you people are so down on it anyway? What are you some fanatics? Common, some prudes, bunch of prudes.”

Well, there is science behind it. This is not simply some old fashioned puritanism that we are down on sex because it’s dirty or because of the devil something like that. No. there is a scientific reason that the transcendentalists spit at the thought of sex. The reason is that the actual self has nothing to do with this body. This gross body is simply a covering. It is not the actual self. The real self is a spiritual being which is eternal full of bliss and full of knowledge.

So, the living entity who mistakenly considers himself to be this material body, he will find sex pleasure to be very, very enjoyable thing. But the transcendentalist who understands and can see graphically that the pleasures of this material world may appear to be very, very nice but they simply lead one to ruin and degradation. They lead one actually down to the lower species of life. That’s where they lead to.

 If one is following the pathway of indriya seva, one will go to the lower species in a very suffering condition. So the point is the transcendentalist even though he may sometimes feel the urge of sense gratification he tolerates that urge because he understands he is going to get something much better or much greater pleasure by doing that.

Just like if I hand you a bag full of 10,000 dollars in it cash, you may feel very good. “Oh, wow! 10,000 dollars cash, thank you prabhu. I can really use this.” You say. “I was just joking, now give it back.”  Oh! “I wasn’t really giving it to you. I was just testing you.” “Oh, dog gone it I thought he was going to give me 10,000 dollars there for a minute.” You wouldn’t like to give it back but if I give you a bigger container with ten million dollars in it, I say, “look, you give me ten thousand and I will give you ten million.” Will you have any trouble with that? “You give me that thousand dollars back and now I will give you ten million dollars. Are you ready? Will you take it?”

So, this material sense gratification, specifically sex, it is mere ten grand that’s all it is 10,000 dollars. But if you can actually revive your original dormant enlightened Krishna consciousness as Prabhupada has taught us. That pleasure is worth ten million, ten billion, ten trillion, ten quadrillion you can’t even put a number on it. How valuable that pleasure is? There is so much rasa. There is so much juice. There is so much nectar even in one utterance of Krsna that the whole universe can’t even hold it. You know that sloka by Rupa Gosvami:-

tunde tandavini ratim vitanute tundavali-labdhaye
karna-kroda-kadambini ghatayate karnarbudebhyah sprham
cetah-prangana-sangini vijayate sarvendriyanam krtim
no jane janita kiyadbhir amrtaih krsneti varna-dvayi

Rupa Gosvamis says, “I do not know, how much nectar these two syllables ‘Krs-na’ have produced because when I say this Krsna name I am not simply uttering it. It is dancing on my tongue and there is so much nectar that this one little mouth is not enough I want to have millions of mouths so I can get a little bit more of that nectar that’s available in ‘Krs-na’ and when those two syllables Krsna enters the holes of my ears oh there is so much nectar I want millions billions trillions of ears to get even a little bit more of that nectar and when that Krsna dances in the courtyard of my heart my mind is completely conquered and I am stunned in the state of transcendental wonder.”

Show me a sexual experience that can compete with that. Sex cannot compete with that. Chanting Hare Krishna is millions and billions of times juicier than sex, that’s a fact. Therefore, devotee can easily give it up, sex life who wants it, dirty, nasty. Simply a nasty bodily function like passing stool or urine actually that’s all it is. You excrete stool out of your body, you excrete urine out of your body, and you excrete semen out of your body, that’s all. It is just another gross bodily function.

So, why it is so pleasurable? Prabhupada explains, because nobody ever wants to have children anyway. It’s been made our arrangement by nature’s way so the species will continue. You get the feeling that you are demigod for about five seconds and then it is over, finished. But they are willing to take that pleasure of demigods for five seconds then slave for the whole life time. There is so much pleasure that they are willing to take all the pains and stresses. Prabhupada said illicit or licit sex is simply trouble. It is troublesome. The result of sex licit or illicit is troublesome. But there is so much pleasure in begetting that they are willing to take all that trouble for years and years and years, the whole life of trouble just for those few seconds of pleasure.

So, those who are actually learned and intelligent, those who are philosophically inclined who can analyze things carefully. They say, “Well, is it really worth it?” Therefore they remain brahmacari. Is it really worth it?’ But if one has that desire more than you can possibly control. Then it is alright! Then use it in Krsna’s service. Then again you must be brahmacari, because the grahasta he is also a brahmacari. Otherwise, if he is not grahasta brahmacari, he is grahamedi. Grahasta brahmacari means he uses sex only for procreation.

Now some people in ISKCON are trying to change that idea; that if you are married you can have sex as much as you want because you are married. But that’s not what Prabhupada taught us. That is illicit sex as confirmed in Prabhupada’s books right there in Bhagavad-gita purport. If you are married person, you are allowed to have sex once a month on the 5th day, after the menstrual cycle. If you want to have children, then you chanted fifty rounds of japa both husband and wife and also, if you have the blessings of your spiritual master to beget a child. That is also mentioned by Srila Prabhupada.

In the Vedic system the garbhodana samskara, it’s not that “Oh, we are married; let’s just jump in the bed.” No. We are married now; we want to have a child, alright before the act of begetting now there will be a whole ceremony. The brahmanas are called, charity is given, it’s a whole elaborate thing just for having sex. There is whole big public ceremony to purify the couple for begetting the child.

So this is a Vedic culture. Sex life is there. But it is regulated. It’s not just when I get the urge to have sex, I jump into bed. No. That urge is tolerated even by householders and it is used in a regulated way according to the Vedic injunctions. It is utilized in a regulated way. In this way, the householder he is just as much as a brahmacari even though he is using sex he is not used by sex. Because the fact is that as soon as we give in to the urges of the genitals, we become victimized by sex. That’s a fact.

As soon as you take up the platform of indriya seva then what is your position- dushparenanalena ca, krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita (3-39). You become a slave of your senses because they burn like fire and they are never satisfied. They say more, more, more, more, more, give me more sense gratification.

So what is this nonsense? I have been serving my senses for millions and billions of life times and where do they get me, another damn rotting material body. I am sick of this. I am out of here. I have had enough of this. He says, all right from now on my dear senses, “I am the boss and you are the servant. I call the shots from here on and not you, Mr. Tongue, Mr. Belly, Mr. Genitals, now I am the boss and you do what I say. That’s it.” That’s called gosvami. That’s a liberated platform. When you finally take complete charge of your senses, 24 hours a day that from now on, “I am in charge and my senses do what I tell them to do, otherwise they just got to tolerate it. If they want something they are not going to get it unless I authorize it.”

So in this way, if you want to advance to the higher platform of Krishna consciousness, you got to be tough for those damn senses. Otherwise you are going to stay on the platform of anartha nivritti for your whole life struggling with those senses.

That’s why one should take a very strong position that now “I am the boss and you do what I say that’s it.” Then you can move pass the anarth nivrutti. Then you can come to the nistha stage. You become solidly fixed in Krishna consciousness where there are hardly any interruptions anymore for your Krsna consciousness. Then you can go to the ruci stage, even less interruptions, asakti stage even lesser interruptions, then finally bhava, then at prema stage, pure love of godhead where you are directly having constant personal loving exchanges with Krsna at every minute.

So, if you want to actually achieve these exalted positions where you can directly associate with God at every minute then you have to give up sex pleasure immediately or gradually, householders are allowed to do it gradually, the other asrams immediately if you want that highest position.

 So is it worth it? The materialists say, “Of course not, you have been brain washed by cult leader, you people are crazy.” But what sort of civilization have these people created. If they are so enlightened with how to be happy then why have they created the world where everybody is miserable? Why are they running on the society where people are starving, so much crime, there is terrorism. If there philosophy was so perfect then why is the whole world going down the tubes right now. That’s the proof. Just look at the world around you, pick up a newspaper and see, what is the result of their hedonistic philosophy, simply chaotic conditions.

The fact is when the society followed the ways of the sages as before the Kali Yuga, there were Vedic Kings ruling this planet for millions of years, people lived wonderful lives, full of happiness, full of joy. There was pure air, pure water, the crime was practically non-existent, even a few centuries ago.

In India, crime was unheard of. There was one British Lord who gave address to the British parliament about the Indian culture; it is amazing the description how there was no crime even just a few years in Kali Yuga, when it degraded so much, it was still such a high level society. What to speak of former time, when they were purely guided by the pure Vedic sages. The kings were governing according to the ways of the sages. We can’t even conceive how wonderful it was on this planet in those days. We can read about it in the scriptures.

The scholars take it as mythology. But no, it is not mythology. The opulence of Dvarka exceeded that of the spiritual world. This is described in Prabhupada’s books. Dvarka was so amazingly wonderful place. It was even more wonderful than spiritual sky. That was right here on this planet. This uncontrolled sex life has brought the degradation of the human society; primarily it pivots around this thing.

Troy was right. In the material world everything is revolving around this sex pleasure. So, that’s a fact, if you want to get free from the miseries of this material existence then you have to get free from this sex desire. You have to kick it out, realizing it as low class, as Prabhupada translated in this sloka, tuccham, tenth class pleasure. Why should I go after 10th class pleasure? I am simply cheating myself of that unlimited pleasure nav nav rasa of Krsna bhakti.

It is alright, now I have now realized it. I want to get free of this sex desire which is tormenting my heart and how do I make that transition, one could ask. I have been sexually addicted for so many years, if not overtly at least covertly within my brain, now how do I get out of this trap.

That is described by Krsna in Bhgavad-gita chapter number 2, text number 59.

visaya vinivartante
niraharasya dehinah
rasa-varjam raso 'py asya
param drstva nivartate

“The embodied soul may be restricted from sense enjoyment though the taste for the sense objects remains but ceasing such engagements by experiencing a higher taste he becomes fixed in consciousness.”

So, how do you get that higher taste? When Maya devi dances in the form of a beautiful naked young girl, you just say to her, “sit down and let me finish my rounds” like Haridas Thakur. You have to get the higher taste. How do you get the higher taste?

Rupa Gosvami in his wonderful book ‘Padyvali’ has given very nice description.

krsna-bhakti-rasa-bhavita matih
kriyatam yadi kuto 'pi labhyate
tatra laulyam api mulyam ekalam
janma-koti-sukrtair na labhyate

He says;

“Pure devotional service in Krsna consciousness cannot be had even by executing pious activity in hundreds and thousands and even millions of life times. It can be attained only by paying one price-that is, tatra laulyam, the intense greed to attain it. If it is available somewhere, Rupa gosvami says then one must purchase it without delay.”


So, how do you get that higher taste? Well, he has told us, “You got to be greedy for it” and we have to be really fired up, “I want Krsna bhakti. I don’t want to be a slave of sex desire any more. I don’t want to be a slave of money. I don’t want to be slave of greed, slave of anger, slave of madness, slave of illusion, slave of envy which has got me nothing but misery. Therefore I must become greedy. I want pure Krsna bhakti. I want to be able to see Krsna face to face and serve Him as eternal pastime. I am tired of this nonsense suffering in this cycle of birth and death.” In this way one should become very, very, very greedy for krsna consciousness.


Then he says, “If it is available somewhere, you must purchase it without delay.” Where is it available? Where is that shop where they sell it? Prabhupada created that one Institution, ISKCON. That Krsna bhakti is available right here in this International society for Krsna consciousness.


How do you pay for it then? By sraddha, faith, muster up as much faith as you can. Grab as much faith as you possibly can and come to the market place nama hatta that Prabhupada has created here, ISKCON. Come to this nama hatta, bring that sraddha, the biggest, grab as much sraddha as you can in your hand and come and lay it on the alter, “Lord Nityananda, give me prem. I have come with as much sraddha as I can muster from my sraddha account, I am putting all my account, please give it to me Lord Nityananda, I beg you to give me prema, please give me prema.” In this way, be very eager, come and beg Lord Nityananda.


Bhakti Vinod Thakur, he is the wonderful saintly spiritual master who will take us to nama hatta. It is described in his nama hatta song, very nice bhajan-

boro sukher khabor gai
surabhi-kunjete namer haṭt khuleche (Gour nitai)

You know that place in Mayapura, Surabhi Kunj. How many of you have been to Surabhi Kunj in Mayapur? It is actually right down the road from Bhakti Vinod Thakur’s house. This is the place where Lord Nityananda began this nama hatta. It is actually somebody’s backyard but they don’t mind in India. In America if you go to somebody’s backyard they will pull out their gun and shoot you, but in India, going to somebody’s backyard, no problem.

I went there one day. I rolled over and over and over in that grass of Surabhi Kunj just begging for the mercy of Lord Nityananda. Just wanted to soak up as much mercy I could get by rolling in that holy place there in Surabhi Kunj, because that’s the place where this nama hatta began by Nityananda. That place where you can go and with the prize of faith and bargain with Lord Nityananda to get that prema.

Bhakti Vinod says, “I will take you to that market. I will introduce you to Lord Nityananda and I will get my commission.” So that is the wonderful thing of this. If you can bring people to this market place which is now manifested as ISKCON, the more we bring people to this movement, Lord Nityananda gives us a commission.

What form does that commission comes in? Well, more sraddha, so we can become more qualified to purchase prema.

So anyway I can ask now if there is any question-


Devotee: [inaudible.]

SDA: I couldn’t hear a word, what did he say?

Devotee: [inaudible.]

VPM: There are many miseries which come from the sex life. What are those miseries?

SDA: The miseries, well, there are four basic miseries that comes from sex life- birth, death, old age and disease. These are the four basic miseries and there are three others the adhyatmik, adhibhoutik, adhidaivik miseries, then there are also the seven whips, hunger, thirst, lamentation. These are mentioned in the Krsna book. So we got the three fold miseries, the four-fold miseries and the seven whips.

Devotee:[ inaudible]

VPM: These are the miseries for the children. What about for the adults?

SDA: Everyone suffers these miseries. The parents suffer because we are addicted to sex life. If we take birth, after birth, after birth, after birth in this material world that is the misery. As long as you remain addicted to sex pleasure, you must take birth again in this material world. If there is any desire for sex pleasure one has to take birth again. One has to become completely asexual.

They talk what is your orientation now days?

Well, I am homosexual. I am heterosexual. I am bi-sexual. Our orientation is asexual. That’s our orientation. Krsna conscious means to have an asexual orientation. Give up sex pleasure! So if you have any attachment for sex pleasure, you have to take birth again, because Krsna doesn’t want to deny you to what you are attached to. He will kindly facilitate you. Well, “I have this desire for sex.” It’s okay! “Take another birth.”

 In the spiritual world, the men and woman are so beautiful. You couldn’t imagine, how beautiful they are and they even have husband and wives there but they are not interested in sex pleasure. They are not attracted. It is not that some man is carried away by his beautiful wife or the wife is carried away by a good-looking husband. No they are all just completely absorbed in Krsna consciousness. Even though they are so beautiful, you couldn’t believe how beautiful those women are there, unbelievably beautiful, but there is no attraction because everybody is caught up with Krsna, Krsna Krsna.

So the misery of sex life is that, you have to keep taking birth again. Every single misery you have to go through of this material existence is the result of sex desire. That’s a fact. I don’t care what it is. Being caught in the traffic jam on the freeway, having to pay taxes, being sick, every single misery that you can list in the material world. The unlimited ocean of miseries are here and they are all simply as the result of sex desire.

Therefore, the intelligent person says, “No thank you, Mayadevi. You can take your little charm and go somewhere else. I want Krsna and only Krsna from now on and that’s it, finish.”

You got a question? Somebody, oh, you had one.

Devotee:  [not very clear.}

SDA: May be you let my wife, because I can’t hear a word practically. So give me bits and pieces.

VPM: I will give you the gist.

SDA: Okay

Devotee: continues, not very clear

VPM: She is saying that we hear in the preaching that sex is within the married life and then we say, sex is only for procreation. So, why does Prabhupada say two different things that within marriage there is in appropriation.

SDA: Sometimes Prabhupada if he is talking to an outsider, he would explain sex is only within marriage because to explain to an outsider the whole nine yards, it is little heavy.  But it is just to give the first principle that sex life is only for within marriage that is for an outsider to get some introductory understanding, but that’s not the end of the story.

The fact is that sex is only for within marriage. Nowhere Prabhupada says, “Within marriage one can have sex without any restriction.” Have you ever seen in the books or heard a lecture? “Sex life, he means license for unlimited.  Married life means you can have sex as much as you want.” No, he never said that, never ever did he say that. He sometimes says, “No illicit sex means, sex only within marriage.” But that is an introductory understanding for the outsiders. That’s not what he trained his disciples.

 Actually once, I was initiating one female disciple, and I said, “What are the principles?” She said, “No sex outside of marriage.” I said, “No.” I immediately stopped the ceremony of initiation. No, that’s not correct. Our principle is no illicit sex. It is not, no sex outside of marriage. No illicit sex, there is a difference. Prabhupada said, once in a month, fifth day after the menstrual cycle, the most fertile day of the month then if the husband and wife have both chanted 50 rounds, then they can try to have a child but if there is no desire for a child then they restrict celibate. That’s the principle.

The evidence is there. It’s all there in Prabhupada’s books. It is very clearly stated in many, many places in Prabhupada’s teachings. There is no doubt about it. It is a very solid principle. I don’t know why devotees are trying to change this principle. It’s the ‘cats are away mice will play syndrome’, that Prabhupada now has departed, so let’s not be so strict anymore, take it easy, but casual means casualty. If one tries to relax the standards that Prabhupada gave and then invent a new standard, you are spoiling the movement. That’s all. Actually you are just completely killing this movement if you introduce this principle that, “unrestricted sex within marriage is okay.” because you undermined the whole principle- tapasya that movement is based on.

Please don’t kill the movement. Let’s keep this movement alive by keeping this principle of Krsna consciousness surpassing all other types of happiness. Krsna consciousness is totally satisfying just in itself.

Is that all right? Okay!

Devotee: In the Bible, it doesn’t say sex is bad.

SDA: We don’t say it is bad either.

Devotee: it says illicit sex. It says sex life simply ruins the life but it doesn’t say anything that it’s bad because you get more bodies.

SDA: Bible is not very scientific

Devotee: Sex weakens the person, you can say, how sex weakens the person?

SDA: how ….

VPM: Sex weakens the person.

SDA: Yes, biologically speaking, Prabhupada explains, it takes forty drops of blood to make one drop of seminal. So actually you are doing nothing more than bleeding yourself. When you pass seminal incessantly the man is simply bleeding himself. And it is like saying, “Yeah, every night when I get home from work, for little attention, I take a razor blade and I slash my wrist. Ah! It feels so good, that blood coming out.” That’s what it is like.

It’s the pleasure of the camel. He is chewing the thorns and he is thinking, umm this is really good, umm oh it’s so scrumptious, so delicious. He is eating his own blood, foolish rascal. So these people who have sex pleasure they are thinking, the more I can pass seminal, oh, it feels so good. It is ridiculous.

I know because I have 12,000 people in my e-course. You wouldn’t believe the emails that I get from people. They reveal the things that they won’t tell anybody else about their sex problems, people masturbating. So many people out there are masturbating, they just can’t conquer it. Well, we try to help them; they get caught up in the habit. They come home every day and they masturbate. This is crazy. They don’t realize it is an addiction.

Sex is an addiction. If you are addicted to masturbating or having sex, you just got to say, “Okay, I have an addiction problem here. I just got to hold myself back long enough to wear that taste and gradually fade away and I am satisfied with the mantra.” You just have to deny the senses, especially the genitals. You have to deny the genitals its masturbation pleasure, and say, “Hey you are not going to get it now. I am going to follow strictly Prabhupada’s instructions and I am going to chant Hare Krsna.”

In this way, gradually it will go away, and as it goes away that beautiful dawn of Krsna bhakti will arise in your heart, and you will feel so happy, so enlivened to be connected with Krsna in all times, in all places, and circumstances. Wherever you go you will feel how you are connected with Krsna. It is really worth it even though it is very difficult in the beginning for a sex addict to practice brahmacari life.

We have many people who were sex addicts in the material world when they joined our movement. And I remember I met one happy householder couple. It is quite an interesting story. In Miami temple I was a brahmacari in those days, and I don’t know why, but they just decided to tell me, they were so excited. The husband said, “Yesterday, we chanted fifty rounds each, we were going to try for having a child, but after we finished chanting the rounds, we were so high in the ‘Hare Krsna’ mantra, we said, let’s wait till next month for having sex. (Laugh) we don’t want to come down from this platform.”

They were so ecstatic after chanting those fifty rounds on japa, who wants to come down on the bodily platform and have sex. They chanted fifty rounds just so that they could have sex and they got so high on the mantra, forget it next month. (Laugh) That’s called higher taste. In this way we have to cultivate that higher taste. Then the lower taste will just go away. “Go away Maya! Go away, get out of here, I just want Krsna consciousness, that’s it, from now on that’s all I want!”

Any way we are getting little overtime here. We thank you all very much for your participation in this Krsna consciousness movement. Kindly dive deeper and deeper in to this nectarean ocean of Krsna bhakti rasa and all desires of sexual life, greedy desires, angry desires, mad desires, illusion desires, envious desire they all will melt away and you will become the most happy blissful person in all the three worlds.
