How You Can Help

Save the World

At the present moment our course has over 16,000 subscribers. Although this may seem like a lot, this is a mere pittance compared to the full outreach potential of the Internet. Therefore our desire is to expand our subscriber base more and more to reach a much larger portion of the over 3 billion people (more than 40% of the world’s population) who are currently using the Internet. If we can at least expand up to 1 billion subscribers, we are confident that this will have a significant impact on the entire global civilization.

So please send us the names and email addresses of anyone you think might be willing to give this course a try, and we will invite them on your behalf to try it.

Super Connected With Krishna on Yamuna Bank

On 29 October 2015 here in Vrindavana, Gurumata, my disciples, and I tasted the most unbelievably sweet transcendental bliss. We took two boats and crossed the River Yamuna to have kirtan and Srimad Bhagavatam class followed by a super ecstatic bath in this most sacred of all rivers. The kirtan soared to such a divine nectarean level that it became a like a magnet attracting everyone in the vicinity to join. Then we dove deeply into sublime mellows of Srimad Bhagavatam philosophy to understand the absolute necessity of always pleasing our spiritual master. The necessity of pleasing the spiritual master is elaborated upon by Srila Prabhupada in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 1.13.10 as follows:

"To go to some holy place of pilgrimage does not mean only to take a bath in the Ganges or Yamuna or to visit the temples situated in those places. One should also find representatives of Vidura who have no desire in life save and except to serve the Personality of Godhead. The Personality of Godhead is always with such pure devotees because of their unalloyed service, which is without any tinge of fruitive action or utopian speculation. They are in the actual service of the Lord, specifically by the process of hearing and chanting. The pure devotees hear from the authorities and chant, sing and write of the glories of the Lord."

Following the class we bathed in this most sacred of all rivers. We were all super connected with Krishna. Srila Prabhupada explains that the dust of Vrindavan is also Krishna. There we were seated in the dust of Vrindavana, on the bank of Yamuna diving super deep into Hare Krishna kirtan and Srimad Bhagavatam philosophy in the association our spiritual masters. What could be more sublime than this? This is the perfection of our existence.

Question: Humanists Say We Are Sectarian

Respected Gurudeva, how to respond to those who say they are humanists and Vaisnavas are sectarian?

Answer: Humanists Are the Biggest Sectarianists

Ask these humanists why they are so sectarian that they give value only to one out of the millions and millions of species that populate the world, the human species. We Vaisnavas respect all of the species. These humanists are the most sectarian people in the whole world.

World Society is Lacking a Unifying Principle

There is ever-increasing disunity and fragmentation taking place all over the world in all spheres of human activity. The current slate of leaders in all categories are completely incompetent to do anything to bring about the desired world unity. The League of Nations was a complete failure, and the United Nations is also a complete failure. It's time now for the human society to discover the unifying principle that will bring the entire world society together as one loving family. This can easily be accomplished if the leaders will just hear now from the bona fide spiritual master. But the difficulty is that they are too proud to take lessons from that person who can solve all of the world's problems. Hence the chaos continues to worsen and worsen every day.

Question: How to Distinguish the Mind from the Supersoul?

How do we know when the mind is talking? How do we know when intelligence is talking? And how do we know when the Supersoul is talking?

Answer: Simply Follow the Spiritual Master

This is why you need a spiritual master. You simply ask him. The spiritual master is the external manifestation of the Supersoul and can thus guide you perfectly how to attain the supreme perfection of going back home, back to Godhead.

How to Connect with the Krishnanet

The internet is everywhere, but unless one has the means of connecting with it one cannot reap its benefit. Similarly Krishna is everywhere, but unless one knows how to connect with Him one remains in illusion, misery and confusion. This art or science of connecting with Krishna is called Krishna consciousness.

Just as Krishna is illuminated, if we are connected with Krishna, simply by His touch we are also illuminated. And if we fall away from Krishna, our spiritual power and illumination are finished. Yoga means connecting or linking with Krishna, the original source of all existence. And viyoga means disconnection. The problem with our present day human society is that we are all viyogis when we should instead all be yogis.

To become a yogi, to connect with Krishna, is not at all difficult. One simply has to follow this instruction of Lord Krishna from the Bhagavad-gita and his life will become perfect:

man-mana bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yaji mam namaskuru
mam evaisyasi yuktvaivam
atmanam mat-parayanah

"Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me."

So, may everyone now throughout the entire universe adopt this verse as the guiding principle of their lives. When you are connected with Krishna you are connected with everything.

Thank you very much for revealing your heart to us. Even though you have just now, with a disturbed mind, cancelled your enrollment in our course, we still appreciate that you have been one of our very dear subscribers since 24 January 2013. Your two-and-a-half years dedication to our course means a lot to us. We are always happy when our readers fully reveal their hearts so that we can know how to guide them in the best possible way for their attaining unlimited happiness as soon as possible.

In regards to what you have written me, kindly carefully and thoughtfully consider the following points:

When the postman delivers the letter to you, you may not like the contents of the letter, but this is not the fault of the postman. He is simply delivering to you the letter written by someone else. Similarly, the spiritual master is nothing but a postman delivering the message that has been sent by Krishna. The spiritual master’s qualification is that he does not add anything to the message or subtract anything from the teachings of Krishna.

If you are disturbed by the teachings, you cannot find fault with the spiritual master because he is simply acting like a postman on the order of Krishna to deliver to you what Sri Krishna instructs in the Bhagavad-gita. If you find the teachings of the Bhagavad-gita to be disturbing, you should take your complaint to Lord Krishna, who has spoken the Bhagavad-gita. If you find the teachings of the Gita to be fallacious and you have a better explanation for our existence, we would be very eager to hear your version of reality. If you have a better explanation than Lord Krishna, we will all become your devotees. Therefore we request you to kindly give us your explanation of reality so we can compare your teachings with the teachings of Lord Krishna to see if you can explains things better than Lord Sri Krishna.

Seeing Krishna in Sri Vrindavana Dhama

Srila Prabhupada writes in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 3.1.24 as follows:

"There are still many devotees of the Lord lingering there in ecstasy in search of Krishna and His childhood associates, the gopis. It is not that such devotees meet Krishna face to face in that tract of land, but a devotee's eagerly searching after Krishna is as good as his seeing Him personally. How this is so cannot be explained, but it is factually realized by those who are pure devotees of the Lord. Philosophically, one can understand that Lord Krishna and His remembrance are on the absolute plane and that the very idea of searching for Him at Vrindavana in pure God consciousness gives more pleasure to the devotee than seeing Him face to face. Such devotees of the Lord see Him face to face at every moment, as confirmed in the Brahma-samhita (5.38):

premañjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena
santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti
yam syamasundaram acintya-guna-svarupam
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

'Those who are in ecstasy of love with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Syamasundara [Krishna], see Him always in their hearts due to love and devotional service rendered to the Lord.'"

These words from our beloved Founder-Acharya, Srila Prabhupada, are a great encouragement for us to properly utilize our time spent here in Lord Sri Krishna's transcendental abode, Sri Vrindavana Dhama.

The Lord's Most Holy Abode--Sri Vrindavana Dhama

Answers by Citing the Vedic Version:

Question: Is the Individual Soul God?

Dear Master,

I read a book on self realization from Dada Bhagavan. It says that the soul inside us is God, whereas Bhagavad-gita says that the supreme soul, Lord Krishna is God and the soul is just a servant of the Lord. It's views on karma is the same. However, they consider the soul inside us to be God. I think it's false and considering our soul to be God could again be false ego. I definitely respect Jainism as a religion, but in the book they even deny listening to the Lord's name at the time of death as they believe that the Lord is their own soul. I think this is false ego. Not accepting Lord Krishna as the supreme, but only as a human who attained self realization, is inappropriate. I would like to hear your views on it.

Jai Shri Krishna.
Shreyansh Barodia.

Answer: He Is Not God; He Is the Servant of God.

If one’s soul is God, how is it that God has become entangled in the cycle of birth and death? God can never come under the influence of His material energy. Therefore this philosophy that the living being is God is completely bogus. This false philosophy is demoniac because it will keep those who follow it imprisoned within the chains of birth, death, old age, and disease. In fact, it is the very desire to be God that brought us into the material world in the first place. And it is the desire to be God that keeps us here in material existence.

The author is erroneously called "Dada Bhagavan," which means "Old Man God." First of all he is not God and secondly God never becomes an old man because He is an eternal youth. God does not need to realize himself by a so-called process of self-realization. An ordinary man does not become God by a process of self-realization. A self-realized soul is someone who has mastered the art of being a cent per cent sold out servant of God.

How can I serve Krishna by playing golf?

A.F.

Answer: By Realizing It Is a Foolish Waste of Time

The way that one can connect with Krishna while playing golf is to realize how miserable he is by wasting his valuable human life simply hitting a ball with a club. He could have utilized his rare human birth for understanding God and qualifying himself to go back to Godhead. But instead he is foolishly hitting a ball and going after it. He could be focusing his consciousness on Krishna, but instead he is focusing his consciousness on a golf ball and qualifying himself to become an animal in his next birth.

Deep Sea Diving in the Nectar of Krishna's Name

Krishna's name "Krishna" is Krishna Himself. Therefore those who are advanced in Krishna consciousness relish Krishna's name like anything. In fact they deep sea dive unlimitedly into the sweet nectarean ocean of Krishna-nama, the holy name of Krishna. In this connection it is stated in the Caitanya-caritamrita Adi 7.73 as follows:

krsna-mantra haite habe samsara-mocana
krsna-nama haite pabe krsnera carana

“Simply by chanting the holy name of Krishna one can obtain freedom from material existence. Indeed, simply by chanting the Hare Krishna mantra one will be able to see the lotus feet of the Lord."

Therefore the devotees go on chanting, chanting, chanting day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, decade after decade. Each and every vibration of Krishna's unlimitedly sweet name brings them closer and closer to seeing the splendorously beautiful lotus feet of their most beloved Lord.

Telling My Pastimes With Srila Prabhupada

Answers by Citing the Vedic Version:

Question: Attracted More to Devotees' Pastimes

Sometimes I find the pastimes of Srila Prabhupada and other Vaishnava acharyas to be more attractive than the pastimes of the Lord Himself. Is this an offense? If at the time of death one remembers any of the great devotees instead of Lord Krishna what will be his fate?

Aspiring to be servant of your servant,

Gopal

Answer: Krishna is More Pleased

Srila Prabhupada says:

"The Pandavas were so dear to Krishna. So it is better to hear about the Pandavas than to hear about Krishna. To hear about Krishna, people may be very much inclined, but the sastra says, "To hear about the devotees of Krishna is still better.’" - from a lecture on the Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.15.51 - Los Angeles, December 28, 1973

Krishna is more pleased when you are attracted to His devotees pastimes than when you are attracted to His pastimes. The more you become attracted to His devotees’ pastimes, the more your dormant love for Krishna will awaken within your heart. If you remember one of the great devotees at the time of death, your going back to home, back to Godhead is assured.

Whirlwind Preaching Tour in New Delhi, India

Here in New Delhi, I am engaged in a whirlwind preaching tour, going here and there to various temples and preaching centers throughout the local vicinity. We are often caught up in immense tortuous traffic jams, which force us to take a very long time to travel a short distance. The day we arrived it took us longer to get to the temple from the airport than it did to fly to Delhi all the way from south India. The material atmosphere is very dense here in this city of ten million with the world's worst air pollution. Everywhere we see people hopelessly, blindly trying to squeeze some happiness out of a life of material sense gratification, even though there is no real happiness to be found here. It is quite insane indeed and makes you very sad. But it is wonderful to see how more and more people here are getting into Krishna consciousness. It encourages you that there will, as matter of fact, come a day when the entire world will become Krishna conscious. We just have to keep preaching up a storm and working towards that glorious day. The miracles will be happening.

Question: Cow Slaughter in Other Religions?

Dearest Gurudeva,

There are certain practices in several other religions which are not allowed in Hinduism. One such practice is of cow slaughter. Cow, which is considered holy and equivalent to a Mother in Hinduism, is being slaughtered by people of other religions to fulfill their desire of eating flesh.

My question is, as a Hindu, how should I respond to such acts? Does Hinduism support the acceptance of all religions?

Rohit

Answer: They Will Become Cows and Will Be Slaughtered

We are not Hindus. The word “Hindu” was coined by the Muslims to describe those persons living east of the River Sindhu. We are followers of the universal religion as described in the Bhagavad-gita. Mercy is an universal religious principle. Therefore anyone who engages in cow killing is irreligious. It does not matter to which religious tradition they belong.

For example, the Bible says that one should not kill, but the Christians disobey their own scripture based on the erroneous claim that the animals have no souls, that they are nothing but machines. When asked about the family dog they will say that their family dog has a soul, while the other animals do not. This is gross ignorance concocted to support their irreligious sinful habit of eating the flesh of the cow. Such doctrines will not save them at the time of death. They will become cows and will be slaughtered in their next lives.

Question: Animal Sacrifice Rituals?

Dearest Gurudeva,

In Srimad Bhagavatam, it is mentioned about Asvamedha-yajña or horse sacrifice performed by King Yudhisthira as advised by Bhisma and also supported by Lord Sri Krishna. It seems to me that such kind of horse sacrifice is inconsistent with your teaching of not slaughtering animals even for human consumption. By the way, what is exactly Asvamedha-yajña? Is it described in the Vedas? Is the ritual of animal sacrifices still being practiced in India nowadays ? Thank you for enlightening me.

With deep respect,
Nyoman

Answer: Forbidden in this Age

Srila Prabhupada describes the Asvamedha-yajña as follows:

"Asvamedha-yajña or Gomedha-yajña, sacrifices in which a horse or a bull is sacrificed, were not, of course, for the purpose of killing the animals. Lord Caitanya said that such animals sacrificed on the altar of yajña were rejuvenated and a new life was given to them. It was just to prove the efficacy of the hymns of the Vedas.”

So in these yajñas, an old animal was not actually killed. He was rejuvenated with a new young body. Such yajñas are forbidden in this age because there are no qualified brahmanas (priests) available who can properly perform them.

Even after studying the teachings of the great philosophers who paved the way for our Western civilization I was still hanging in a philosophical quandary bewildered to know the meaning of my existence.

But then after five-and-a-half years of philosophical struggle, greatly tortured by my ignorance, I was blessed to realize the great profundity of the philosophy of the Bhagavad-gita as revealed by the greatest of spiritual masters, His Divine Grace A.C. How can I be like you?

(Question asked during lecture in Pune, India)

I personally do not feel that I am any kind of special person that you should aspire to be like. But if you feel inspired in your Krishna consciousness by my example, I can share with you my inner mood that motivates me to think, speak, and act the way that I do. I am very much inspired by the mood described by Srila Prabhupada in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 5.18.9, which is as follows:

"We should pray, bahir nrsimho hrdaye nrsimhah: 'Let Lord Nrsimhadeva sit in the core of my heart, killing all my bad propensities. Let my mind become clean so that I may peacefully worship the Lord and bring peace to the entire world.'"

This is my focus, my modus operandi. I am striving within to become a pure devotee who can see Krishna face-to-face at every moment. And I am striving without to spark off a global spiritual revolution that will engulf the universe in an ecstatic ocean of Krishna's mercy.

In Eighteen Days We Can Conquer the World

Srila Prabhupada told us that if we cooperate with him we can conquer the world in eighteen days. Why would a humble devotee of the Lord, whose only desire is to serve God and all living beings, have any interest in conquering the world? Some may argue that this is a materialistic desire. But actually it is not all materialistic. This is a manifestation of Srila Prabhupada's unparalleled compassion upon the suffering souls of this material world. The entire human society is suffering greatly due to a total lack of Krishna conscious leadership. When the Vaisnavas are accepted all over the world as the natural leaders, both in terms of education and management there will be a new global era of peace and prosperity. Therefore we must now do our duty of strictly following Srila Prabhupada's teachings and propagating them like anything so that we can make the whole world Krishna conscious as soon as possible.

Question: Is Krishna Consciousness Against Secularism?

Dear Gurudeva,

Since promotion of Krishna Consciousness spreads Hinduism, is it communal and against the spirit of secularism and thereby causing conflict in societies and countries?

Aspiring Servant,
Prashant Agrawal
Melbourne Australia

Answer: Secularism is Trying to Kill God

The Krishna consciousness movement is not promoting Hinduism. We are promoting the science of God that is equally applicable to everyone: Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhist, Sikhs, Jains, etc. Just as there is only sun in the sky, although it is known by different names in different languages, similarly there is only one Supreme Person, although He is worshipped by different names in different religious traditions. So the real fact is that there is only one religion, to become a pure lover of God, no matter if you call Him Krishna, Christ or Allah. This is what we are promoting all over the world to bring peace and prosperity to everyone in every nation.

In the name of so-called secularism people are becoming more and more degraded to the level of animals. This so-called secularism is the invention of demoniac men who want to kill God. They will not be successful in doing so. God is alive and well. In the form of death, in due course of time, God will kill all of these rascals who promote this so-called secularism. God will survive, and they will perish.

"A person fixed in the devotional service of the Supreme Lord, Hari, the Lord of the highest auspiciousness, swims in the ocean of nectar. For him what is the use of the water in small ditches?"

The enjoyment of the material world is the water in small ditches. Such enjoyment is puny and insignificant compared to the enjoyment of spiritual life.

Even if one is not successful in reclaiming all the fallen souls back to Godhead, still, because he is Krishna conscious, his path to Vaikunthaloka is open. Just like when one seeks medical treatment he approaches a bona fide medical doctor, not a quack, when one desires to be educated with genuine spiritual knowledge he requires the guidance and blessings of a real guru, a genuine guru, not a fake guru or a quack guru.

Unfortunately at the present time, the world is overwhelmed by a deluge of bogus gurus, spiritual quacks, who do not have genuine spiritual knowledge and who thus grossly misguide their students and disciples. This is why at the present time the world is embroiled in ever-increasing chaos. When the world population learns how to distinguish between a real and a bogus guru there will be the dawning of a new age of peace and prosperity the like of which has not been experienced on this planet for the last 5,000 years.

Fortunately, there are some bona fide spiritual masters available on this planet for those who are serious about attaining spiritual perfection. Anyone who seriously follows the merciful guidance of these fully qualified gurus will be blessed with the highest spiritual perfection of pure love of God. He will escape the vicious cycle of birth and go home, back to Godhead.

Question: Krishna Consciousness and University Studies?

Now I'm a student at Sofia university. Sometimes it's a little bit difficult to practice Krishna consciousness and to study at the university. How can I be Krishna conscious and also do well in my studies? What is the best: to be very good in my university studies or to focus on process of Krishna consciousness very seriously.

Also, I want to listen your lectures recorded recently in Bulgaria. How can I find them?

Thank you very much!
Hare Krishna!

Your servant,
Bhakta Todor

Answer: First Krishna Then Your Studies

To remain Krishna consciousness while studying at the university is very easy. Simply you must rise early every morning and chant 16 rounds of Hare Krishna japa mala before you begin your studies. In this way you will easily be able to remember Krishna throughout the day and thus remain always happy in Krishna consciousness. Of course, Krishna consciousness is more important than university studies, but as everyone requires a means of livelihood your university studies are also important, and you should excel in them.

My recent lectures from Bulgaria have not been posted yet, but will soon be posted at:

Discover and Awaken Your Real Identity

Why cling to a false identity, which is temporary, full of ignorance and misery, when you can instead discover and awaken your real identity, which is eternal, full of knowledge, and full of bliss? Only a complete, total fool would hang onto this false identity. But this is what 99.99% of the world population is doing at the present moment. This is why the world situation is in such an abominable condition at the present moment. We are trying to save them. If they would just open their ears and minds and hear us, we could save the whole human population from this chaos.

The Disciplic Succession Continues

The process of disciple succession is an ongoing process. It does not stop at a certain moment in history. In this connection Srila Prabhupada explains as follows

"One who is now the disciple is the next spiritual master. And one cannot be a bona fide and authorized spiritual master unless one has been strictly obedient to his spiritual master." - from purport to SB 2.9.43

Srila Prabhupada explains that just as he is in the line of disciplic succession, his disciples are also in the line of disciplic succession:

"So we have got this message from Krishna, from Caitanya Mahaprabhu, from the six Gosvamis, later on, Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Bhaktisiddhanta Thakura. And we are trying our bit also to distribute this knowledge. Now, tenth, eleventh, twelfth. My Guru Maharaja is tenth from Caitanya Mahaprabhu, I am eleventh, you are the twelfth. So distribute this knowledge." - Arrival Lecture - Los Angeles, May 18, 1972

In spite of the above instructions some foolish so-called followers of Srila Prabhupada claim that the ancient system of disciplic succession described by Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita has ended with Srila Prabhupada, that there will be no more spiritual masters after Srila Prabhupada.

We are not so foolish as to accept such a so-called conclusion, which is not in accord with the teachings of Krishna, of Lord Caitanya and the great Vaisnava Acaryas.

Answer: One Requires Proper Training to Perfect His Chanting

Any chanting of the names of God is beneficial. But in order to go back to home, back to Godhead one must master the art of chanting under the guidance of a bona fide spiritual master. This is why it is stated in the Padma Purana:

sampradaya-vihina ye

"Unless you are initiated by a bona fide spiritual master in the disciplic succession, your mantra or initiation is useless."

It is a indisputable fact that the Krishna consciousness movement will inundate the entire planet earth. 500 years ago Lord Caitanya has given this prediction:

"In as many towns and villages are there all over the world,
this Krishna consciousness movement will be spread."

So now it is up to us, His followers, to make this prediction come true as soon as possible by spreading the holy names and the teachings of Lord Caitanya to every city, town, village, and hamlet all over the world. Question: When You Can't Get the Association of Devotees?

I have a question from your lecture. You said that we are social animals and association is a psychological need. So my question is what to do when one doesn't have any devotee association? After the lecture I felt that maybe it's the lack of association that sometimes disturbs my mind and attracts me towards karmi association. So if there is no devotee association, is it ok to associate with karmis a very little bit or is better to not associate with anyone at all?

Karan

Answer: Associate With Them Within Your Heart

When you cannot get the physical association of devotees you should associate with them within your heart by always remembering their instructions and their divine qualities. In this way you will always be blessed and empowered by their transcendental association.

Blessed by the Holy Land of India

Today we are blessed by a return to the holy land of India. India is where the Supreme Lord has repeatedly appeared and displayed His transcendental pastimes throughout the ages. It is also the place where so many great spiritual masters have appeared. Although modern day India is covered by the current population's impassioned pursuit of sense gratification, the great spiritual potency of India is there just below the surface, experienceable and perceivable by those who see through the eyes of the scriptures. In his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 5.4.9 Srila Prabhupada describes how Lord Caitanya has given special importance to the people of India:

"This planet known as Bharata-varsa is also called punya-bhumi, the pious land. At the present moment Bharata-bhumi, or Bharata-varsa, is a small piece of land extending from the Himalaya Mountains to Cape Comorin. Sometimes this peninsula is called punya-bhumi. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has given special importance to the people of this land:

bharata-bhumite haila manusya-janma yara
janma sarthaka kari' kara para-upakara

"One who has taken his birth as a human being in the land of India (Bharata-varsa) should make his life successful and work for the benefit of all other people." (Cc. Adi 9.41) The inhabitants of this piece of land are very fortunate. They can purify their existence by accepting this Krishna consciousness movement and go outside Bharata-bhumi (India) and preach this cult to benefit the whole world."

We are most fortunate that one Indian, our beloved spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, took Lord Caitanya's order seriously to bless the world with Krishna consciousness. If every Indian would do this, there would soon the dawning of a golden age of peace and happiness on this planet. We pray for that day to come soon.

I have some questions which haunt me always: Who am I? Am I a fallen soul? Is it possible for me to know myself? Is it possible for me to become free from the eternal chain of birth and death? Is self-realization possible in this present life?

Answer: You Are Krishna's Eternal Servant

You are the eternal servant of Krishna, but because of your foolish attempt to try to enjoy separately from the Lord you have fallen into the cycle of repeated birth and death. However, by now surrendering to Krishna you will fully realize your eternal spiritual identity and become free from the cycle of birth and death in this very lifetime. If you will fully surrender to Krishna by strictly following the orders of His representative, the bona fide spiritual master, at the time of leaving your present body, you will immediately go back to home, back to Godhead.

Is Our Peace Formula Crazy?

My song "The Peace Formula" has been getting attention in the media. Although a recent reviewer from Music Dish really loves my song, he describes our peace formula as "somewhat crazy." Upon hearing his objection we can thoughtfully analyze if our peace formula is indeed crazy or not, and why or why not it is crazy.

Our peace formula is Krishna's peace formula given in the ancient book of wisdom, Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 5, Text 29:

bhoktaram yajña-tapasam
sarva-loka-mahesvaram
suhrdam sarva-bhutanam
jñatva mam santim rcchati

"A person in full consciousness of Me, knowing Me to be the ultimate beneficiary of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attains peace from the pangs of material miseries."

In other words, peace will be attained both individually and collectively as soon as we acknowledge that person who is the supreme enjoyer, the supreme owner, and supreme friend. This is really just common sense. When the parts of body co-operate to feed the stomach, they all become properly nourished. And if the bodily parts do not co-operate to feed the stomach, they all will suffer. In fact, in a few such days the body will die. This is the status of the present day world civilization, which is now tottering on the edge of a complete breakdown of the social structure into total anarchy.

Question: Destination of Those Who Go to Lord Shiva's Abode?

Krishna says in Bhagavad-gita 8.16:

"From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death take place. But one who attains to My abode, O son of Kunti, never takes birth again."

Since the highest planet here in the material world is Brahmaloka, and since Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva, is above Brahmaloka, can you please let me know what will happen to the person who goes to Kailash? Will the person who goes to Kailash come back to this cycle of birth and death? If so, is Lord Shiva also subject to birth and death?

Vasudevan K

Answer: They Return to the Cycle of Birth and Death

Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva, is also called Mahesh-Dhama. It is in a marginal position between the material world and the spiritual world. Srila Prabhupada explains, "The impersonalists who want to merge into the existence of the Transcendence are placed within Mahesh-dhama.” These impersonalists remain in Mahesh-dhama for some time and then fall back down into the material existence. Lord Shiva, is the topmost of all Vaisnavas, and is therefore a fully liberated soul, who is not subject to birth and death.

Imagine a brutal war over whether that fiery ball in the sky is "the sun" or "el sol." Both are correct. It simply a matter of different languages. The same thing with religion. Religion is one. It is spiritual. While religions are many. They are material.

The so-called devotee was so critical and puffed up that he did not even want to follow Srila Prabhupada, what to speak of following Srila Prabhupada's disciples. So it was actually he who was rejecting Srila Prabhupada, not Srila Prabhupada rejecting him.

It is possible for the world civilization to become Krishna conscious and for there to still some people who are not on the highest standard. For example, we read in the Srimad Bhagavatam that even in Krishna’s ideal city of Dvaraka 5,000 years ago there were prostitutes so that low class men could satisfy their lusty desires without polluting the chaste women.

Tasting More Nectar in Estonia

After tasting the sweetest nectar of Krishna consciousness here in Lithuania, today we are heading out to Tallinn, Estonia to taste and distribute more of this unbelievably sweet nectar known as Krishna consciousness to the souls there who are starving for it. In regards to tasting this nectar it is stated as follows in the Caitanya-caritamrita (Adi 7.20-21):

"The characteristics of Krishna are understood to be a storehouse of transcendental love. Although that storehouse of love certainly came with Krishna when He was present, it was sealed. But when Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu came with His associates of the Panca-tattva, they broke the seal and plundered the storehouse to taste transcendental love of Krishna. The more they tasted it, the more their thirst for it grew."

When we enjoy some delicious food, as we eat more and more of it, gradually our appetite goes away, and we want no more. But Krishna consciousness is different. The more you enjoy it, the more your taste for it increases.

I have some questions about the devotee who is liberated. Firstly, how can we distinguish who is the liberated devotee? Secondly, how does the liberated devotee determine that he is liberated? At last, what is the liberated devotee's duty and his wish?

Yours follower,

Answer: Strictly Following the Previous Acharyas

Liberated or not liberated, that devotee who purely follows and repeats the instructions of the previous acharyas is as good as liberated because by following him you will become liberated. So all you need to see is whether or not this person is purely following and repeating the instructions of the previous acharyas. A devotee is not concerned about his own liberation. His only duty and desire is to follow and repeat the teachings of the previous acharyas. And his only wish is to deliver all of the fallen souls of this material world back to home, back to Godhead.

The difficulty is that even though love is unconditional, we are not able, at the present time, to love unconditionally because we are so heavily polluted by so many selfish qualities such as lust, greed, anger, illusion, madness, and envy. Because of not being able to love unconditionally we are thus unable to experience any genuine happiness. So just as when one is sick, one requires medicine to get well, in our conditioned state we require medicine to revive our unconditional love. That medicine is the holy names of God. Anyone who sincerely chants God's holy names will personally experience the awakening of genuine unconditional love and happiness within their hearts and will thus smash into the dust the foolish arguments of your brother.

For a devotee there is no difference between going back to Godhead and staying in the cycle of birth and death for delivering the fallen, conditioned souls back to their original home in the spiritual sky, because in either situation he remains intimately connected with Krishna in a pure loving relationship of transcendental bliss. Therefore what we should do is simply fully surrender ourselves to Krishna, accepting whatever place He gives us as our residence. We are willing stay in the material world eternally for delivering the illusioned souls back to Godhead. Or we are willing to go back to Godhead immediately, if that is what Lord Krishna desires. This detached mood of total surrender to Krishna makes us fully qualified to back to home, back to Godhead. Why Be a Star When You Can Be a Moon?

Srila Prabhupada often quotes this verse by Canakya Pandit:

ekas candras tamo hanti na ca tara-sahasrasah

"If there is one moon in the sky, it is sufficient to give light to the whole sky. What is the use of millions of stars?"

There are many so-called stars here in the material world: leading politicians, well-known scholars, reputed scientists, powerful businessmen, famous movie stars, prominent rock musicians, etc. But none of them have been able to do anything to bring actual light to this darkened world. All it takes is one moon, one pure devotee of Krishna, to bless the entire world with the all-auspicious light of Krishna consciousness. His moonlight will bring peace and prosperity to the entire human civilization. One moonlike pure devotee of Krishna can lead the entire world out of chaos. When Srila Prabhupada started this movement he was hoping that he could make at least one such moonlike disciple. But after starting this movement he said, "Fortunately, by Krishna's grace, many moonlike boys and girls have come to me. Many moons."

So the conclusion is that instead of trying to be a star, a so-called prominent person in this material world, one should strive to be a moon, who can give Krishna consciousness to the entire world. Srila Prabhupada explains in his conclusion to Teachings of Lord Caitanya that such person enjoys eternal fame:

"One who is famous as a Krishna conscious man enjoys eternal fame. In the material world, everyone is striving for three things: he wants his name to be perpetuated, he wants his fame to be broadcast all over the world, and he wants some profit from his material activities. But no one knows that all this material name, fame and profit belong to the temporary material body and that as soon as the body is finished, all name, fame and profit are finished also. It is only due to ignorance that everyone is striving after the name, fame and profit that are connected with the body. It is deplorable to become famous on the basis of the body or to become known as a man of spiritually developed consciousness without knowing the supreme spirit, Vishnu. Real fame can only be had if one attains Krishna consciousness."

We are eternally indebted to Srila Prabhupada for revealing such spectacularly amazing knowledge to us.

What to do when I become envious when you, my Gurudeva, show more attention to other disciples (especially new disciples) or to other devotees?

Your servant,
Gaura Lila devi dasi

Answer: Try Harder So That You Are Also Recognized

When I was a young devotee I was also jealous of my Godbrothers who were being more recognized than me. Knowing that a devotee is not supposed to be envious I did not feel good about this. Therefore I wrote Srila Prabhupada asking him how I could become free from this envy. Srila Prabhupada very much surprised me with his answer. He did not tell me to give up my envy. He called it spiritual envy and encouraged me to engage this envy in Krishna’s service by using it as an impetus to try harder so that I would also become recognized.

As far are new devotees goes, just as the parents have to give more attention to little babies than they do to their grown up children, new devotees require more training and guidance from the spiritual master. So naturally they sometimes get more attention. This does not mean that my older, more experienced disciples like you are less important.

Do not think that you are not being noticed. This morning as we were leaving the temple I particularly noticed you out of all the devotees how you were especially enthusiastic in the send-off the devotees gave us. I so much noticed you that I mentioned your name to the other devotees in our vehicle.

So, whether you are externally recognized or not recognized, you are always being recognized by Guru and Krishna for the wonderful devotional service you are rendering every day. So kindly continue enthusiastically in your service to Guru and Krishna, and surely Krishna will shower His causeless mercy upon you like torrents of rain in the monsoon season.

Our mission is to re-establish Vedic culture on our heavily beleaguered planet earth. We say re-establish because before 5,000 years ago, both culturally and politically, Vedic culture was the predominant way of life here. In other words our mission is to totally revolutionize the human society, to spark off an unparalled renaissance, the greatest paradigm shift in the history of the universe. Even though, considering the present day world situation, such an idea seems utopian or even completely insane, we are confident that sooner or later such a complete world transformation will occur because it is predicted in the Caitanya-caritamrita. So, there is no question of 'if it will happen'. The only question is when it will happen. Whether it will happen sooner or later depends on us, how pure and intelligent we are to propagate the Krishna consciousness movement in the most effective and powerful way without in any way compromising its principles, as is sometimes proposed by those who are of weak faith or less intelligent. If we water down the Krishna consciousness movement, it will no longer be the Krishna consciousness movement. It will eventually simply be another edition of the nonsense so-called religions which are grossly misleading and cheating the ignorant masses today. Therefore we must be careful not to turn ISKCON into a fool's paradise.

Question: If Guru's Instructions Are Too Difficult to Follow?

The following question is troubling me. What should I do if I find that the spiritual master's instructions very difficult or impossible to follow?

Gopal

Answer: Remembering Lord Caitanya Makes It Easy

It is stated in the Caitanya-caritamrita (Adi 14.1):

"Things that are very difficult to do become easy to execute if one somehow or other simply remembers Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. But if one does not remember Him, even easy things become very difficult."

If you will sincerely follow this advice, all of your difficulties will melt away into transcendental bliss.

Develop a Taste for Krishna Katha

We are drowning in this material existence due to our attachment to mundane topics. These topics are described in Srimad Bhagavatam 1.5.10 as follows:

na yad vacas citra-padam harer yaso
jagat-pavitram pragrnita karhicit
tad vayasam tirtham usanti manasa
na yatra hamsa niramanty usik-ksayah

"Those words which do not describe the glories of the Lord, who alone can sanctify the atmosphere of the whole universe, are considered by saintly persons to be like unto a place of pilgrimage for crows. Since the all-perfect persons are inhabitants of the transcendental abode, they do not derive any pleasure there."

To free ourselves of this addiction we must absorb ourselves in Krishna katha, the topics of the Lord, as much as possible 24 hours daily. The more we go on hearing and chanting the glorious topics of the Lord, the more our taste for these topics will increase and our attraction for the mundane will gradually diminish to the point of nil.

Prayer: For Your Long Life

I pray to Lord Krishna for your long life so that this world is purified by your teachings. Although, I am only a neophyte devotee, just to be at that level needs your grace and knowledge. So I cannot imagine how I would have been without your guidance and support.

Sivakumar

Answer: Thank You For Your Sincere Prayer

Thank you very much for your sincere prayer. My desire is indeed that this whole world becomes Krishna conscious before I leave my present body. Because of the unlimited potency found in Srila Prabhupada's teachings it is a fact that the whole world can become purified by understanding and following Srila Prabhupada's most amazing teachings. Therefore I am praying that soon the entire world will become awakened in Krishna consciousness by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada.
