Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: What is My Way Forward?

Possibly like many people, I struggle with the gravity of the information in the Vedic knowledge, although feeling inside it all to be true. It seems such a departure from what we have always been educated about life and happiness, not to mention the alien culture and language from which it derives. I am just a simple idiot from England after all who thought he was gonna be a big shot, until i read all these books.

I have been reading a lot recently and am convinced now that I dont have to move into a temple to practice bhakti yoga, I did on three different occasions in my youth, but as Sri Krishna says, "Perform your duty and at the same time think of Me." and "The best yogi is the one who thinks of Me within himself." I understand location should not be an obstacle and should not be a hindrance.

The guidance /advice or answers I am seeking relate I suppose to motivation/desire and/or focus.

Personally I don't find everything in the material world terrible (something I feel is preached strongly). I like the sunsets and sunrise, being by the sea where I live, good vegetarian food, listening to music, clothes/style and fashion, art, my job and hobby which is gardening and landscaping, having fun and humor with friends and my girlfriend, walking in the countryside and dare I say even making money and having the facility for some enjoyment and to be able to pay my bills. I'm not ashamed to say that. My parents also live in Mediterranean so I am able to visit for holidays, also very nice experiences. I also like mountains, and different cultures, etc.

So all in all, I don't feel it's too bad. Yes, death is there, but so what? Death is as natural as birth. What is there to be scared of?

Anyway you get my drift. But whenever I read the Bhagavad-gita verse below I start to shudder!

"In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place."

Is there any way forward for someone in my situation who is an intoxicated fool, as I am willing now to do it, whatever that maybe.

With best regards,

Nick

Answer: Krishna Sun Rising Within Your Heart

Krishna consciousness is not a process of denial. The path of denial ultimately cancels itself out because in the end the denier has to also deny denial to be complete in his denial. Krishna consciousness is the process of perfect affirmation, affirming and tuning into the original essence of everything, which is unlimitedly beautiful and thrilling.

So we do not deny the beautiful things of this world. Rather we appreciate them as a manifestation of Krishna’s unlimited glories. We take them as reminders of the millions and billions of times more wondrous beauty of the spiritual existence, which is situated far, far beyond the cycle of birth and death in which we are now imprisoned.

We do not want to get old. We would rather stay young. Yet we are forced by the laws of material nature to become old. When one awakens his dormant Krishna consciousness, which is currently sleeping within his heart, he regains his natural eternally youthful all-blissful identity which is never disturbed by any of the all too frequent upheavals of this material existence such automobile accidents, terrorist attacks, etc.

So my dear, Nick, what you need to do now is connect everyday with that original essence, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna by feelingly uttering the Hare Krishna mantra on japa mala beads. Show Krishna your gratitude for all that He is providing you by offering your food to Him before eating. And most importantly, take shelter of those who have realized Krishna more than you. They will guide you and bless you with divine awakening. In this way you will be flooded with the divine mercy sun of pure love of God arising within your heart, and you will experience unlimited beauty at every minute in all times, places, and circumstances.

Thought For The Day: A New Enlightened Era on this Planet

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Why am I spending so much energy for the last fifteen years nonstop writing 'Thought for the Day' every day? I am doing this because I cannot tolerate the present day world situation. Our leaders have created a royal mess which cannot be properly called a civilization. What is civil about it? It is like a billboard I used to see on the highway every time I drove from San Diego to Los Angeles which stated, "It's a jungle out there." So what can we do to change it? Is these any hope at all for saving the world from its current destruction course which it is so solidly locked into? Yes, there is hope. That hope comes from the Srimad Bhagavatam in a wonderful verse that was composed over 5,000 years ago:

tad-vag-visargo janatagha-viplavo
yasmin prati-slokam abaddhavaty api
namany anantasya yaso ‘nkitani yat
srnvanti gayanti grnanti sadhavah

"That literature which is full of descriptions of the transcendental glories of the name, fame, forms, pastimes, etc., of the unlimited Supreme Lord is a different creation, full of transcendental words directed toward bringing about a revolution in the impious lives of this world's misdirected civilization. Such transcendental literatures, even though imperfectly composed, are heard, sung and accepted by purified men who are thoroughly honest."--SB 1.5.11

So now all we have to do is widely propagate the teachings of the Srimad Bhagavatam as much as possible in as many ways as possible to as many people as possible all over the world. By doing this, gradually as the world population will get and understand this message, there will be the dawning of a new, beautiful, spiritually enlightened era on this planet.

Question: How to Get Motivated to Study Medical Books?

Hare Krishna!

I'm a medical student, Srila Gurudeva, and I find it hard to gather motivation to study the medical books. How should I go about it?

Bhargavi

Answer: Offer This In Krishna's Service

Even though we have only one duty in life, to fully surrender to Krishna under the expert guidance of the bona fide spiritual master, still in order to keep body and soul together we require some means of livelihood. So according to one's nature one should choose a suitable livelihood and execute it nicely so that one can simultaneously even more importantly focus his mind, words, and actions on serving Krishna. In other words one accepts a means of livelihood to facilitate fully giving his life to Krishna.

Therefore since you have chosen a medical career, for the service of Krishna you should execute your study duties very nicely so you can be well situated materially to facilitate your fully absorbing your life in Krishna’s service.

Is this clear?

Thought For The Day: His Transcendental Form is Full of Bliss, Truth, and Substantiality

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Who could be more amazing than Krishna? He is most wonderfully described by Lord Brahma as follows:

angani yasya sakalendriya-vrtti-manti
pasyanti panti kalayanti ciram jaganti
ananda-cinmaya-sad-ujjvala-vigrahasya
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami

"I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, whose transcendental form is full of bliss, truth, substantiality and is thus full of the most dazzling splendor. Each of the limbs of that transcendental figure possesses in Himself, the full-fledged functions of all the organs, and eternally sees, maintains and manifests the infinite universes, both spiritual and mundane."

The beauty of Krishna consciousness is that when you realize Krishna you realize everything. Therefore those who are actually intelligent focus as much of their energy as possible for realizing Krishna and perfecting their eternal relationship with Him as His servant.

Question: Whose Devotee Should I Be?

Hi. I have two questions. First, in the Thought for the Day emails you often say that we need to be the devotee of the devotee of the Lord Krishna. Who would that be for me? Second, I would like to be able to associate with Krishna devotees, but I live 350 miles from the nearest ISKCON center. What do you suggest for me?

Thank you,
Rand

Answer: You Can Be My Devotee

If you will always carefully follow my instructions and inquire from me for clarification of how to do so, you will be associating with me within you heart at every minute. In this way you will also be following Lord Sri Krishna’s order to become the devotee of His devotee. So you can be my devotee.

Thought For The Day: The Whole World is Waiting

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

On 7 January 1973 in Mumbai, India Srila Prabhupada explained that the whole world is waiting to become Krishna consciousness. So since they are all waiting to become awakened to Krishna consciousness, what are we waiting for? We must now fully embrace our duty of giving them what they are actually hankering for in the innermost cores of their hearts. They will be eternally grateful to us for awakening them, and our lives will become unlimitedly glorious. What could be more wonderful than this?

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: Will I Not Be Able to Become a Devotee?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances onto your lotus feet

O my most respected and dear Gurudeva, please tell me. I have heard many times in Srimad Bhagavatam the glories of devotees and pure devotees of our dear Lord Krishna and how in every point, and in every aspect of their life Krishna personally took charge of them and helped them back to Him!

But I think I am not and neither can become His devotee as I have many, many bad qualities in me. I have grown up having meat, fish, etc and not chanting from childhood. My mind goes here and there while chanting. I cannot remember Krishna every time. Does this means that I cannot become His devotee? Does this mean that Krishna will not help me?

Please shower your blessings upon me. Your shelter is all that I seek. I need your special blessings to progress in Krishna consciousness. Please, Srila Gurudeva, bless me so I can progress and get initiation as soon as possible!

Your servant!

Answer: By Lord Caitanya's Mercy We'll Be Saved

Caitanya Mahaprabhu is patita-pavana, the friend of the fallen. He is Krishna Himself in His most merciful manifestation. He appeared as an incarnation just to deliver all fallen souls like us and directly bestow upon us love of Godhead. We must therefore take full advantage of this great benediction of the great Personality of Godhead by always remembering Him and begging for His mercy. If we do so, we will be saved from our fallen position and will become fully immersed in pure love of God.

If You Are Ever Totally Stressed Out

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

If you ever become totally stressed out, do not become devastated and hopeless. Simply remember that even though Arjuna was completely stressed out he totally recovered his equilibrium. We learn from the Bhagavad-gita that Arjuna became so stressed out that he had a total nervous breakdown. He was so overwhelmed with lamentation that he could not function any more in his occupation as a warrior. Just as Arjuna was brought back to perfect functionality simply by hearing the teachings of the Bhagavad-gita, we can also be fully restored psychologically simply by hearing the words of the Bhagavad-gita. So if you ever come to the point where you feel that you absolutely cannot cope with what you are going through, simply pick up the Bhagavad-gita and keep reading it until your mind becomes peaceful. You will be amazed by how dazzlingly wonderful and sublime is this Bhagavad-gita, the king of all knowledge. It will literally pick up the pieces of your splayed intelligence and put you back together again.

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: How to Always Be Krishna Conscious?

Dear Guruji,

Pranam.

Firstly, I convey my gratitude to you for the opportunity given to me to be a part of this wonderful and divine journey of self-realization. If you permit, I would like to share some of my experience with you.

I am Bibeka Nanda Sa, 36 years old, I was born in a very small village situated in eastern part of India. I grew up listening to the Maha MantraHare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare” from my childhood days. We organised various Nama Sankirtana functions in our Mandir Pandal every year. In my childhood whenever I listened to or chanted the Maha Mantra I felt like I was in a different world of happiness, where there is no fear or pain, where there is only joy and happiness.

Then after my education, I joined a company and started my professional career as a software developer in the capital city of my state, Bhubaneswar. In my initial days, I enjoyed my job a lot and learned from whatever challenges I faced. When I became a senior consultant in my field, responsibilities increased and work pressure increased. To get a temporary relief, I started drinking with my friends. But after a certain period I found that drinking was not the solution of my problem, rather it was adding more to my problems in terms of health related issues. Then suddenly one day I realised that I am so stressed that I am not able to focus in my work. I felt like I was trapped in the middle of an ocean. I just stopped everything and went to my village where my parents were living. On the same night (when I was not able to sleep) I heard the Maha Mantra from the Mandir Pandal where our local community were organizing Kartika Purnami, and Nama Sankirtana was being done by some nearby villagers. I went there and started chanting “Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare” along with them. Suddenly I realized that I have forgotten everything and was dancing like a kid in the tune of Maha Mantra with other disciples. I stayed there the whole night listening to the Maha Mantra and continued for next three days till Kartika Purnami. At the end I was not the same person who had gone to the village with lot of stress, negativity and pain. I felt like I was liberated, I was freed. All my stress and problems were vanished in the very moment when I chanted the Maha Mantra. As I had to support my family, I came back and joined to my work with a lot of positivity and most importantly with a smile and continued my professional life.

After that, my life is continuing with ups and downs, but I am enjoying every moment. In this busy life I am not able to give enough time to nourish my spiritual self on regular basis. So please guide me how can I do the same along with my other responsibilities towards my family.

Yours sincerely,
Bibekananda Sa

Answer: Initiation and Serving the Bona Fide Spiritual Master

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Bibekananda,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I am so pleased to read your wonderful story. Now if you will solidify your relationship with Lord Sri Krishna as His eternal servant, your mind will become perfectly steady and you will be solidify fixed in the bliss of Krishna consciousness from now on for the rest of your life and indeed for all of eternity.

In the Bhagavad-gita Lord Krishna gives us the order that we must accept a spiritual master. And our most beloved Lord Sri Krishna confirms this in the Adi Purana when He instructs that to become His devotee we must become the devotee of His devotee. Thus by taking initiation from and totally surrendering to the bona fide spiritual master, we become so solidly fixed in Krishna consciousness that nothing can shake us for all of eternity.

The requirements for initiation are simply wonderful because they liberate us from the clutches of maya (illusion) and solidly situate us on the transcendental platform beyond the cycle of birth and death. The requirements are that we strictly avoid illicit sex (This means avoiding sex which not for the purpose of procreation.), meat eating, intoxication, and gambling, and that we chant at least sixteen rounds per day of the Hare Krishna mantra on japa mala beads.

If you can come to this standard, I can initiate you as my disciple and train you how to always be fully absorbed in Krishna consciousness in all times, places, and circumstances for all of eternity, even when you are working your job.

So think this over and let me know what you would like to do now so that you can always be situated in the pure bliss of Krishna consciousness without ever experiencing any interruption.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Thought For The Day: Injecting Consciousness into the Dull Brains of the Present Day Materialistic Society

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

George Harrison accomplished something really wonderful when he popularized Krishna consciousness through his number one hit song, "My Sweet Lord." Since I was a popular singer/songwriter before becoming a devotee of Krishna I thought to also try spreading Krishna consciousness throught the medium of popular music. My album "Our Sweet Lord," which can be heard at www.TurnOnTheWorld.com, is gaining popularity in the material world. For example, radio station KMNR now rates my "Our Sweet Lord" album as one of their top ten albums this week. You can see it listed this week at: https://kmnr.org/charts/

My songs have also gotten airplay on the following radio stations:

1. WESS in East Stroudsberg, Pennsylvania
2. WRRG in River Grove, Illinois
3. WCSF in Joliet, Illinois.
4. Radio Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona
5. WRIR in Richmond, Virginia
6. WIDR in Kalamazoo, Michigan
7. KRUX in Las Cruces, New Mexico
8. NVWR in Reno, Nevada
9. KRUA in Anchorage, Alaska
10. WARY in Valhalla, New York
11. CHMR in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada
12. WRFL n Lexingont, Kentucky
13. WSND in Notre Dame, Indiana
14. WVAU in Washington, DC
15. KRUI in Iowa City, Iowa
16. WCNI in New London, Connecticut
17. WSKR in Jacksonville, Florida
18. WRST in Oshkosh, Wisconsin
19. WFHU in Henderson, Tennessee
20. WRKC in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
21. WMUC in College Park, Maryland
22. WUEV n Evansville, Indiana
23. KSDB in Manhattan, Kansas

Srila Prabhupada has written the following words in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 1, Chapter 5, Text 16:

"The expert devotees also can discover novel ways and means to convert the nondevotees in terms of particular time and circumstance. Devotional service is dynamic activity, and the expert devotees can find out competent means to inject it into the dull brains of the materialistic population. Such transcendental activities of the devotees for the service of the Lord can bring a new order of life to the foolish society of materialistic men. Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His subsequent followers exhibited expert dexterity in this connection. By following the same method, one can bring the materialistic men of this age of quarrel into order for peaceful life and transcendental realization."

Although I certainly do not consider myself to be an expert devotee, I am praying that somehow by the grace of guru and Krishna that I can be successful in injecting Krishna consciousness into the dull brains of the present day materialistic society.

Question: Proof that Krishna is the Supreme?

While preaching we face lots of questions like all Upanishads glorify their god as the supreme. Where in the Vedas do we find that Krishna is the Supreme and others are His subordinates? Please give some quotes. It will help to convince both myself and others.

Please do not give quotes of the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, Brahma-samhita, or any sattvic Upanishads.

Your servant,
Panchal

Answer: The Proof of the Pudding Is In the Eating

If you cannot accept as authoritative the words of God Himself when He speaks, you are hopelessly lost. If God Himself is not an authoritative source of information, who can we trust? The proof of the Gita is that by following it, you will realize God, just as innumerable saints and sages have done throughout the ages.

If you don’t believe it, I challenge you to try it. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Thought For The Day: Rascal in the Hotel Lobby is Not Given a Room

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Just imagine that you are a hotel clerk and into the hotel lobby staggers a drunk, unkempt, filthy rascal who is spouting off profanity at the top of his lungs and who then makes his way to your counter and asks to be given a room. Your manager then whispers in your ear that your hotel does not give rooms to such people. So you do your duty and you do not allow him a room.

We neophyte devotees often face a similar situation in the hotel lobby of our minds. Due to memories of previous sinful activities before we embraced the path of bhakti, sinful desires sometimes manifest in our mental lobby. As long as we do not give them a room we are okay. But if we allow them to occupy a room, this can lead to our falling down from the most glorious path of Krishna consciousness. Therefore we must always be vigilant to usher all sinful thoughts to the hotel door immediately ordering them to leave.

The conclusion is that dirty thoughts in your mental lobby which you do not welcome are not a fall down. But if you facilitate them with a room, i.e. a permanent place of residence, you will fall down from the glorious path of Krishna consciousness. Therefore always be a good clerk and never allow sinful thoughts a place of residence in your heart.

Thought For The Day: The Key to Genuine Happiness

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

The key to always experiencing genuine happiness is to become re-situated in your original nature, which is completely beyond this material world, the land of birth and death. This cannot be achieved by mental speculation or physical gymnastics because it is completely on the spiritual platform beyond your mind and body. It is simply a matter of reviving your lost connection with the Supreme Person, the source of all existence. This is a science, and it is called bhakti yoga, the yoga or linking process of devotion. Under the guidance of the bona fide spiritual master you learn how to revive your lost loving relationship with Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. There is no fee that one has to pay to be trained in this science. The only payment required is your faith. Your must put your faith in the process and dutifully carry out the instructions you are given by the spiritual master. If you do this, you will experience results that are inconceivably sublime. So why not give it at try? You've got nothing to lose except for your anxiety and absolutely everything to gain.

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: How Can I Make the World Krishna Conscious?

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I know this sounds weird but Srila Prabhupada also has instructed that "You become an acarya". So I want to make the whole world Krishna conscious as soon as possible. I know I have to be a staunch follower of Prabhupada and should really have a great sadhana bhakti. That's what an acarya means, one who teaches by his example.

Right now, I am obviously not that much good at bhakti and am not doing my sadhana ideally. How can I actually do that? I don't know how much my heart and mind are polluted by wrong desires and thoughts, but I literally want to do it, to make the world Krishna conscious.

I have read many of your replies to devotees' questions which always has one instruction amd that is to pray to the Lord. But when I do that, my previous and current wrong actions and desires comes into my mind.

I realize that I do not deserve this, that I am not a good devotee yet. This hurts me because I don't know when that is going to happen, if I am ever going become an ideal devotee in near future.

I'm trying, but you know, I have a very severe mental disorder, I cannot focus into one thing, I cannot express or present my feelings and thoughts to anyone. I cannot write good articles and speak in front of people either. How can I preach? It's also very difficult for me to explain my issue to you nicely. How will I become an acarya now? I have many ideas, but I cannot implement them. I have tried. I don't know how much I am true at this, but I literally want to make everything Krishna conscious. Maybe I will become egoistic? Is that why Krishna is not providing me good public speaking abilities? How should I understand this situation? I want every quality in my self which is required to do this task.

I apologize for the long mail but I know you're very kind, please reply whenever you're free.

Thank you.

Your servant,
Rishi

Answer: Fully Surrender to the Bona Fide Spiritual Master

I am very happy that you want to become a powerful acarya who can make the world Krishna conscious. This is a spiritual desire. But to be able to do this, you must become free from all material desires. Can you do that?

The first step to freeing yourself from all material desires to become the initiated, totally sold-out disciple of the bona fide spiritual master. Are you ready and willing to take this first step?

To become an expert, powerful preacher requires training. You cannot accomplish this without training. That training can only be gotten after you fully surrender yourself at the lotus feet of the bona fide spiritual master. When you do this you will be amazed at the transformation that takes place within your heart and astounded to see how Krishna is able to accomplish so many miracles using you as His instrument.

So now, let's see if you are ready to become the totally sold-out servant of the bona fide spiritual master by qualifying yourself for initiation. Only in this way will you become fully empowered to spread this Krishna consciousness movement.

Question: If Someone Commits Suicide Because He Can't Get a Job?

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

My question today relates to suicide and its after-effects. I have read that suicide puts a person's spiritual clock in reverse, i.e. a person who commits suicide has to restart his life in the future birth from the point where he/she committed suicide. I would want to clarify that suppose a person committed suicide due to not getting a job. So does this mean that the person will have to again be struggling for a job in his next birth?

Looking forward to your enlightening response soon.

Your Servant,
Avinash G.

Answer: He'll Get a Job as a Ghost

It’s much worse that than. A person who commits suicide will become a ghost in his next life. And he will get a job. His job will be to haunt people. So it's better to remain unemployed and chant Hare Krishna than to commit suicide and become a ghost, because Krishna will never let someone starve who is sincerely chanting His name.

Thought For The Day: You've Got Nothing to Lose Except For Your Anxiety

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

Take seriously to Krishna consciousness. You've got nothing to lose except for your anxiety. If you don't believe me, just give it an open-minded try, and you will experience first-hand how I am 100% correct. So what do you have to lose? Question: Why Is It Difficult to Do Our Duty?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Why is it so difficult to do what ought to be done? Bringing about a revolution within myself is easier said than done, why am I such a masochist?

Sincerely,

Joe

Answer: It Only Seems to Be Difficult

It is actually easy to do what ought to be done. But our minds have been conditioned to unreality for so many millions and billions of lifetimes that we take the easy thing to be difficult and the difficult thing to be easy. This is our mental concoction, our illusion. But when we put our faith in the words of Guru and Krishna we become empowered to make that seemingly difficult task regain its original, easy-to-do nature. This is why it is so important to take complete shelter of the bona fide spiritual master.

Thought For The Day: Just Be Yourself

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

All we are really saying is, "Just be yourself." Be your actual self, the eternal spiritual being who is dwelling within the heart of the physical body as the driver. If I told you to be your car, could you do that? Of course not! Similarly it is not possible for you to be your body. It is a just a physical machine that you are manipulating to go here and there and do this and that. The reason the world is presently such a screwed up mess is everybody is trying to be happy by satisfying the senses of their material body. They are neglecting the self within. Therefore it is time now for a vast, all-encompassing spiritual revolution to train everyone how to simply be themselves. In due course of time the world will wake up and heed our message. Indeed it will come to pass in the future when historians will note how at this time in history the Krishna consciousness movement totally transformed the world.

Question: Okay to Be Attached to Devotees?

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

This is the question that confuses me every time while having devotees as my friends. I can understand that Lord Krishna is the only enjoyer of this entire creation, but what happens when neophyte devotees on earth becomes best friends of each other? Is it okay? The Nectar of Instruction mentions loving exchanges between devotees, but what kind of relationship between them is not mentioned. In making devotee friends Krishna will be in the center always. But attachments would be there, like if one is not present then another may miss him. So should this attachment be there or not? Or do we have to see every soul equally without being in any kind of attachment?

Thank you.

At your service,
Rishi

Answer: Krishna Says It Is Required

Becoming attached to Krishna’s devotees is a great blessing and is required. In this regard Krishna tells Arjuna that His devotees are not His devotees. He says that only those who are the devotees of His devotees are His real devotees.

Life in this world is not always pleasant. Sometimes we are faced with very difficult situations. We lose our composure, and we become bewildered. But when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: How to Control My Crazy Mind?

I offer to you my respectful obeisances.

Lately I've been experiencing a sort of disparity between my material and spiritual life. Going to school obviously involves friends and peers at school who are not in Krishna Consciousness. Lately at school I feel a lot of pressure to behave a different way, and this disparity between this material life and my spiritual life of Krishna Consciousness is making me feel depressed. I feel like I am in such a helpless condition because I can't adjust in either one properly. I am not sure how to explain my situation correctly, but my mind is troubling me a lot, and it feels completely irrational to be stressing out over these small issues of judgement from peers. But my mind seems to think that these little things are all in all. If one is truly in Krishna Consciousness, they should not be psychologically disturbed in this way. So how should I control this crazy mind?

From a soul in need.

Answer: Be Proactive Instead of Reactive

Instead of becoming depressed by trying to behave like your friends at school, be their true friend and their very best friend by teaching them to become like you, i.e. Krishna conscious. In other words, instead of being a miserable slave of the material society become an ecstatic spiritual revolutionary out to save the world. Krishna will bless you, and your friends will be greatly benefited.

Thought For The Day: Relish Unlimited Happiness at Every Minute

ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

If you will tune into your actual spiritual nature, you can relish unlimitedly, ever-increasing bliss for all of eternity, even in the midst of the most devastatingly distressful situations here in turmoil-ridden material world. So who is that fool who would not agree to accept our training? Only those who are most most unfortunate will not need our teachings. We therefore pray that their good fortune will come very soon.

Question: How Are We Qualitatively One With Krishna?

Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances!

Srila Gurudeva, I understood that I'm not the maintainer of anything and that I'm dependent on Krishna. But how is it then that we're qualitatively one with Krishna, if we don't posses that one quality of maintenance even to a small degree?

Your servant,
Bhargavi

Answer: Big and Small Maintainers

Krishna maintains infinitely by maintaining everyone and everything, and we maintain infinitesimally by feeding our bodies to keep body and soul together.

Thought For The Day: Make Your Best Effort Every Day

Flying from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas USA

Since any day could be the last day in our life in this present physical incarnation, those who are factually intelligent pour everything they have and are into each day. In other words, they never postpone their spiritual advancement. They utilize every day to fully absorb their thoughts, words, and deeds in Krishna's service and to broadcast the message of Krishna to the sleeping souls of this world. In this way they live ecstatic, fully fulfilling lives, and they are fully engaged in doing the highest level welfare work for the lost, bewildered souls of this age.

Question: Being Responsible and Non-Attached?

Haribol, Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances unto your lotus feet.

I have heard many times that we should not grow our attachment for anything or anybody since everything is temporary in this material world. But if we are not attached to anything, how can we properly do our duty with those for whom we are responsible?

Always seek your blessings, guidance and shelter!

Your servant,
Your spiritual daughter!
Anamika Roy

Answer: Use Attachment for Krishna's Service

Here’s an example: It is natural that a wife will be attached to her husband. But if she utilizes that attachment to always facilitate her husband’s Krishna consciousness, such spiritualized attachment will liberate her from this material existence. In other words spiritualized attachment is detachment, or non-attachment.

Thought For the Day: Why Torture Yourself by Remaining Covered?

Los Angeles, California USA

Why torture yourself when you could be tasting unlimited bliss at every minute? This is simply a matter of common sense. Your actual nature is eternal, full of bliss, and full of knowledge, while your covered nature is temporary, full of ignorance, and misery. Instead of being covered by ignorance and misery you can uncover your actual nature and be swimming in an ocean of unlimited bliss at every minute. You don't need to be a rocket scientist or a Phd to figure out which is better: your covered nature or your uncovered nature.

So if you are ready to uncover your consciousness and be who you actually are, you've come to the right place. In this course I will teach you how to fully situate yourself in your eternal all-blissful, all-knowing nature. All you have to do is hear me and follow my instructions.

Question: Save a Drowning Man?

I know we should think of Krishna at every moment. Does this mean we should chant rather than help someone in need? My thoughts are that the two are not mutually exclusive. Take this example: If a devotee sees a man in the river drowning, should he simply chant and be happy, should he preach to the man until he dies or, should he save the man's life?

Your servant,
Bhakta Russell

Answer: Save Him From Both of His Drownings

If someone is drowning, first rescue him from the water and then because he is also drowning in the ocean of birth and death, you should then rescue from drowning in that ocean by making him Krishna conscious. Until you have done both rescues, you have not actually saved him from drowning. In other words, what good is saving his body only, if he is going to be a worm in stool in his next birth?

Thought For the Day: Back to the USA

Los Angeles, California USA

After being out the USA for the last six weeks on an around-the-world global respiritualization tour we are now back. Srila Prabhupada was very fond of the United States because it was from here that he has able to successfully launch his world deliverance mission.

In this regard he stated when he was in Washington D.C.: "I take America as my fatherland. India is motherland, and here is fatherland." His face softened with a gentle smile, and he spoke with fondness. "So many fathers. My father was very affectionate to me. He would do everything for me. I lost one father, but now I have so many fathers."

I take it as a special blessing that Srila Prabhupada so much appreciated the land of my birth. Now I want to see that all of my American countrymen will take to Krishna consciousness and assist us in making the world Krishna conscious.

Question: Woman in a Man's Body

I have emailed you before, I am 26 years old male, but I identify myself instead as a woman. Since childhood I wanted to be a woman. This is not a mental problem. I don't know what to do.

Which asrama do I belong to? I can't get married because I don't want to start a relationship with a lie, and also I don't have any attraction for women. I can't join brahmacari asrama, because I'll be trying to suppress my feelings and pretend something what I'm not. I'm not very advanced in bhakti where I can avoid my mind's need. Please help me, Maharaja. I'm sick of being fake in front of everyone. Nobody knows what I'm or what do I feel inside. Seeking your help.

Your servant.
(Name withheld for confidentiality)

Answer: Go Beyond Male and Female

Either way, whether you identity as a male or a female, you are wrong because your actual identity is beyond this material existence. You are factually an eternal spiritual being qualitatively one with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Therefore for the actual solution for your identity frustration is to revive your lost loving relationship with Krishna. This will bring you unlimited peace, satisfaction, and happiness.

I recommend that you practice brahmacari life because this will give you the best facility to situate yourself beyond the bodily platform on the spiritual platform where you can taste unlimited spiritual bliss 24 hours a day.

Thought For the Day: Everything Comes From Something

Toronto, Ontario Canada

Sometimes the rascal so-called atheistic scientists dogmaticallly declare that everything comes from nothing. Although they cannot scientifically prove this, they want us to simply accept this as gospel truth simply on the basis of blind faith in them because they are PhDs. But in this regard it is stated very wisely that fools rush in where angels fear to tread. If these so-called scientists want us to accept their theories, they must back them up with genuine scientific evidence.

From our side we are making the counter proposal that everything comes from something. We can provide thousands and millions of examples of this as our scientific evidence. For example, butterflies come from caterpillars and flowers come from seeds. The list goes on endlessly. Therefore we can scientifically conclude with ample evidence that since everything comes from something, nothing comes from nothing.

The perfection of science then is to trace the multitudinous chains of causality back to that original something which does not come from anything except itself. This is what theologians describe by word "God." Therefore we can scientifically conclude that highest evolution of the scientific process is the science of theology, the foundational study of the very source of our existence.

As a final word, we extend to our atheistic scientists friends that if you all want to be respected as scientists it is time now for you all to start being scientific instead of dogmatic.

Question: Percentage of Devotees in the World?

Hare Krishna, Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obesiances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

In this world how many percent of humans are in Krishna Consciousness?

Your servant,
Hari

Answer: Less Than 1 Percent

Out of a world population of 7.6 billion less than 1% are serious about spiritual life. This means that only a few thousand persons are seriously taking up the process of Krishna bhakti. Now we have to try increase it. Our mission is to make the entire world Krishna conscious as soon as possible.

Thought For the Day: Our World Peace Mission

Toronto, Ontario Canada

We want to bring peace to the world so that all living beings can be happy here. In this regard Srila Prabhupada has stated on 14 February 1977 when he was in Mayapura, West Bengal, India:

"So if they want actually world peace, world unity, they must take the formula given by Krishna. That is our duty. Because we are preaching Krishna consciousness, so our duty is to convince that 'You are uselessly wasting your time for unity, for benefit of the humanity. You take this. You'll be happy.'"

So somehow or other we must now make the entire world Krishna conscious. This s the only solution to solve the multitudinous problems that are presently very much plaguing and perplexing the modern day humanity. My life is fully dedicated to this.

Question: Daughter Can Deliver Her Family?

Hare Krishna Guru Maharaja ,

Please accept my humble obeisances
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I have a question in regards to this. You say that the son (putra) delivers his father from hellish conditions. So what about a daughter? If I am observing all the ekadasis and practicing Krishna consciousness, would this give the same effect to my father and forefathers? Or what about any other family members?

Your humble servant,
Sarva Mangala Devi Dasi

Answer: Pure Devotion Blesses Everyone

From: Toronto, Ontario Canada

My Dear Sarva Mangala,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Pure devotion is beyond any conception of male or female. If the daughter is a pure devotee of Krishna, her presence in a particular family will also greatly bless that family. So now you need to seriously cultivate suddha-bhakti, spotlessly pure devotional service to bestow the greatest benediction upon your family members and all the suffering souls of this material world.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Question: If Husband Wants Sex?

Hare Krishna Maharaja and Guru Mata.

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I hope you are well and thank you so much for your preaching service and your time to answer questions.

Please tell me what stops one from surrending completely.
How can one give up sense enjoyment like watching TV?
How to stop bad qualities like anger?
Can a lady take initiation even if her husband still wants sex life with her?

Thanks so much,
Your servant

Answer: Train Him to Give It Up

It is only our stupid mental concoctions that keep us from fully surrendering to Krishna.

Instead of watching the nonsense TV which keeps you entangled in the cycle of birth and death, turn on the mystic TV within your heart in which you can personally witness Lord Sri Krishna’s pastimes and even enter into them as a participant. By chanting Hare Krishna and serving Krishna under the expert guidance of the bona fide spiritual master you will be able in due course of time to turn on that most amazing mystic television within your heart. In the meantime don’t waste your time playing around in misery watching the stupid nonsense television. Spend all of your free time engaging in devotional service such as chanting Hare Krishna and studying the Bhagavad-gita.

Conquer anger by cultivating the art of tolerance. Use anger only for chastising those who defy God.

The lady whose husband desires sex other than for procreation should become the guru of her husband and train him to stop wasting his valuable semen by abstaining from unnecessary sexual activities. If semen is kept within the male body it enhances the man’s brain power, his health, and his duration of life. And if it is wasted, he will gradually become senile and sickly and will shorten his duration of life.

Question: Saudi Arabian Citizenship for a Robot

Sophia, the robot, has been given Saudi Arabian citizenship. Humans have invented new life without any soul. So we are not souls but robots?

Vrusti Kanojia

Answer: This is Sheer Lunacy

The robot, Sophia, is just a machine. There is no person inside the machine. That the Saudi Arabian government granted citizenship to Sophia is sheer lunacy. It shows that they are not much more intelligent than robots. Sophia is not alive. The inventors of this robot have simply programmed it to mimic life.

(See the robot, Sophia, here: https://youtu.be/S5t6K9iwcdw)

We, the actual human beings, are eternal spirit-souls temporarily residing within the material bodies, that act just like sophisticated machines. We have the power to engage our bodies in any number of ways according to our choices. But a robot cannot do what it is not programmed to do. It cannot make any independent choices because there is no soul inside a robot. Simply it is programmed by humans to mimic what we humans say and do. Thus a robot cannot think on it’s own. While a robot can only do what it is programmed to do, a human being can act freely to change his course of action anytime according to his own desires. A robot cannot feel any desires because there is no person in there to feel anything or change its course of action according to changing perceptions and realizations.

Thought for the Day: The Whole World Can Become Peaceful and Happy

Toronto, Ontario Canada

Srila Prabhupada has so mercifully given us the perfect formula, surrender to Krishna, by which the entire world can become peaceful and happy. Therefore on his order and out of compassion upon the poor suffering souls of this age, it is our duty to enlighten the world population in the science of Krishna consciousness. Somehow or other we must induce them to give serious attention to understanding and then to fully implement the teachings of Lord Krishna. 7 November 2015

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: How to Satisfy Krishna's Senses?

Srila Gurudeva, how to satisfy Krishna's senses?

Thank you, and "Hare Krishna."

Arie from Malaysia

Answer: Engage Your Senses in Krishna's Service

How to satisfy Krishna is described in the following verse from the Narada-pañcaratra:

hrsikena hrsikesa-sevanam bhaktir ucyate

"Bhakti, or devotional service, means engaging all our senses in the service of the Lord, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the master of all the senses.”

So you should engage you tongue in tasting prasadam and as much as possible in always chanting Hare Krishna and glorifying His transcendental name, form, pastimes, teachings, entourage, and paraphernalia. You should engage you ears in always hearing His glories. Engage your body in practical devotional activities such as going to the temple and engaging in preaching activities for the Krishnaization of our present totally lost material society. Engage your mind in always thinking about Krishna. Engage your eyes in seeing the deity of the Lord and in reading the scriptures such as the Bhagavad-gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam.

In this way, by fully engaging your senses in Krishna's service, you will become fully pleasing to the Lord and fully qualified to enter into His unlimitedly ecstatic transcendental abode at the time of death when you leave your present material body.

Thought for the Day: Nothing to Lose Except Your Anxiety

Santiago, Chile

By taking to Krishna consciousness, one has nothing to lose except his anxiety. So who, in their right mind, having heard about Krishna consciousness, would not want to take up this most wonderful enlightening and liberating path? Only the foolish masochist, that person who would rather punish himself rather than reward himself, or that person who mistakenly thinks that being trapped in a rotting, dying body is great fun.

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: Thinking of Dead Relatives at the Time of Death?

What happens to a person if he thinks of his dead relatives at the moment of death? If his relatives have got liberation, will he also get liberation because he was thinking of them while dying?

Please enlighten me on this. Looking forward to your enlightening response.

Your Servant,
Avinash G.

Answer: He Goes to Where They Are

He goes to wherever they are. If they are liberated souls in the spiritual world, he will go to the spiritual world. If they are somewhere else, such as in a lower species of life like dogs or cats, he will become a dog or a cat. So the safest bet is to think of Krishna. Then you know for sure that you are alright.

Lord Sri Krishna and the Gopis

Thought for the Day:"Become Guru and Deliver the World"

Santiago, Chile

My most dear Lord Sri Krishna, my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acarya of ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, has ordered his disciples, "Become guru and deliver the world." So my dearest and most merciful Lord Sri Krishna, I am humbly begging that in spite of my innumerable disqualifications I can successfully execute this instruction of my beloved spiritual master, even if I have to take birth after birth here in this material world to be able to do so. My dear Lord, I am willing to go anywhere to any world to do whatever You want me to do. But since my spiritual master has ordered to become guru and deliver the world, I am duty bound to successfully carry out this order, even if it takes many lifetimes to do so. So, my dear Lord Krishna, I am begging your special mercy that as soon as possible I can successful carry out of the order of my beloved spiritual master to deliver the world.

Every machine has an operator. No machine can function without an operator. Therefore the gigantic universal machine must also necessarily have an operator. This operator is the person we call “God.” He is the Supreme Operator. He must necessarily exist. Otherwise, nothing can happen.

Thought for the Day: Southern Hemisphere to Northern Hemisphere

Santiago, Chile

After some inconceivably blissful several days of teaching the science of Krishna bhakti in Santiago, Chile we are heading out from the hot Chilean summer to the very cold winter in Toronto, Canada. As I write this, the temperature in Toronto is 2 degrees while Santiago is going to be 90 degrees today. This an 88 degree drop. This is a great opportunity to remember and follow Krishna's teaching in the Bhagavad-gita that one must be transcendental to the dualities of material existence. In this world we are always being bounced around by the dualities: heat and cold, happiness and distress, honor and dishonor, birth and death, youth and old age, poverty and wealth, praise and blame, etc. Krishna therefore teaches us to be even-minded in the the midst of the all these dualities. The secret of being even-minded in all times, places, and circumstances is to see that at every moment everything is being arranged/orchestrated by Lord Sri Krishna to bring us back to our original constitutional position of pure devotional service to Him as soon as possible. If we always keep this transcendental vision, we will naturally always be even-minded and never disturbed by the constant onslaught of the dualities.

Question: Best Friends With a Devotee?

This is a question that confuses me everytime while having devotees as my friends. I can understand that Lord Krishna is the only enjoyer of this entire creation but what happens when neophyte devotees on Earth become best friends of each other? Is it okay? In the Nectar of Instruction it is mentioned regarding the exchanges between devotees but still what kind of relationship there should be is not mentioned so far as I know. Making devotee friends, there will be Krishna in center always, but physically attachments would be there, like if one is not present then another may miss him or like that. So should it be there or not? Or we have to see every soul equally without being in any kind of attachment?

Thank you.

At your service,
Rishi

Answer: Absolutely!

As quoted in the Adi-Purana Lord Sri Krishna tells Arjuna:

ye me bhakta-janah partha
na me bhaktas ca te janah
mad-bhaktanam ca ye bhaktas
te me bhakta-tama matah

"Those who are My direct devotees are actually not My devotees, but those who are the devotees of My devotees are factually My devotees.”

Therefore the more you become attached to and devoted to Krishna’s devotees, the more your Krishna consciousness becomes awakened.

We see this mood of attachment to devotees in the great Vaisnava acaryas. For example Narottama dasa Thakura's friend was Ramacandra Cakravarti and Narottama dasa prays "ramacandra-sanga mage narottama-dasa -I always desire the company of Ramacandra Cakravarti." Just see. He always desires a devotee's company. The whole process of Krishna consciousness is that we should always pray for the mercy of the superior acaryas and keep company with pure devotees. Then it will be easier for us to advance in Krsna consciousness and receive the mercy of Lord Caitanya and Lord Krishna.

Thought for the Day: Do You Know Who You Really Are?

Santiago, Chile

Here are the lyrics for my song "Turn On Your Soul." This song will be released on my next CD. It carries a very important message that can benefit the entire world. Plus it contains a powerful argument used by Srila Prabhupada to logically defeat atheism. Below you can see and hear a live performance from my recent visit to Australia. It was an ecstatic day by the side of a river.

Turn OnYour Soul

Do you know who you really are?
Do you know where you’re coming from?
Do you know for sure where you’re goin’
Or what you will become?

You’re eternal, full of knowledge and bliss.
So remember and celebrate this.
You’re not of this world, dear friend.
Better tune in and turn on your soul.

Do you know what happens when you die?
Do you know what’s beyond the sky?
Do you think that body is you?
It’s just something that you’re passing through.

You’re eternal, full of knowledge and bliss.
So remember and celebrate this.
You’re not of this world, dear friend.
Better tune in and turn on your soul.

We’re told that everything happens by chance.
That the universe has no person in control.
But I see that every machine has got an operator.
So the universe also has one. This I know!

Do you know who you really are?
Do you know where you’re coming from?
Do you know for sure where you’re goin’
Or what you will become?

You’re eternal, full of knowledge and bliss.
So remember and celebrate this.
You’re not of this world, dear friend.
Better tune in and turn on your soul.????

Answers According to Vedic Knowledge

Question: Krishna Conscious Relationships?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Your Divine Grace, and to Gurumataji.
All glories to His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada.

I beg your help in understanding the following point. Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita 6.8-9:

"A person is said to be established in self-realization and is called a yogi [or mystic] when he is fully satisfied by virtue of acquired knowledge and realization. Such a person is situated in transcendence and is self-controlled. He sees everything — whether it be pebbles, stones or gold — as the same. A person is said to be still further advanced when he regards all — the honest well-wisher, friends and enemies, the envious, the pious, the sinner and those who are indifferent and impartial—with an equal mind."

How does the self-realized person develop relationships if he sees everyone equally? Does he think, "This person is acting as my honest well-wisher only due to a particular combination of the modes of nature", or "This one is envious because of the gunas controlling him."? It seems like he will only see the action of maya and, remaining impartial, not deal with the soul. Since the soul in all these different bodies is simply sleeping, with whom does he interact and relate?

I'm also not yet awake. So how does one sleeping soul develop meaningful relationships with other sleeping souls? Is the only really satisfying relationship with Krishna? Are loving dealings with devotees only a practice for eventually being with Krishna? Isn't it selfish to think, "I'll develop a good connection with this devotee so that I can finally be with Krishna?" The relationship with the devotee appears as a means, not an end.

Your servant,
Dvijamani Gaura dasa

Answer: They Are All For Krishna's Service

From: Santiago, Chile

My Dear Dvijamani Gaura,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The mahabhagavata sees everything in relation to the Supreme Lord. Such a devotee does not discriminate between an atheist and a theist but sees everyone as part and parcel of God and sees everyone as a pure devotee of Krishna. This is his equal vision. But since in this state of consciousness he cannot preach, out of compassion upon the fallen souls he comes down to the platform of a madhyama adhikari to observe the distinctions between four categories of beings: (1) the Supreme Lord; (2) the devotees of the Lord; (3) the innocent, who have no knowledge of the Lord; and (4) the atheists, who have no faith in the Lord and hate those in devotional service. The madhyama adhikari behaves differently toward these four classes of person. He adores the Lord, considering Him the object of love; he makes friends with those who are in devotional service; he tries to awaken the dormant love of God in the hearts of the innocent; and he avoids the atheists, who deride the very name of the Lord.

It is not selfish to think, "I'll develop a good connection with this devotee so that I can finally be with Krishna.” This is so because Lord Krishna has ordered us that unless we are the devotees of His devotees we are not His devotees. Thus developing loving relationships with devotees is non-different from awakening pure love of Krishna within our hearts.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Thought for the Day:

He's A Real Nowhere Man

Santiago, Chile

Today here in Santiago, Chile I was visited by a foolish young man who was formerly practicing Krishna consciousness but has now given it up. The reason he gave me for stopping his chanting of 16 rounds is that he wants to become an important person in this world. What this poor soul does not realize is that even if one becomes the most important person in this world, he is nowhere if he is not Krishna conscious, and if one is Krishna conscious, he is automatically the most important person in this world. So I am now begging Lord Krishna to be kind upon this poor soul that he may understand and fully realize how he can properly achieve his desired position of being important.

Question: How Does the Spiritual Master Empower His Disciple?

Dear Srila Gurudeva!

Please accept my humble obeisances in the dust of Your lotus feet.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Srila Gurudeva! Happy New Year! I wish you to conquer even more hearts this year with Krishna Consciousness! Good health to you! Help me eliminate doubts and gain faith in this statement:

mukam karoti vachalam
pangum langhayate girim
yat-kripa tam aham vande
sri-gurum dina-taranam

"I offer my respectful obeisances unto my spiritual master, the deliverer of the fallen souls. His mercy turns the dumb into eloquent speakers and enables the lame to cross mountains."

How does the Spiritual Master give such power? Help me surrender to your will, not to my mind. Help me understand how I can call out to Krishna like a child who is crying for his lost mother. I understand this condition, but I do not feel it.

With respect,

Your servant,

Arjuna das

Answer: He is Empowered by Krishna

My Dear Arjuna Das,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The spiritual master is empowered by Lord Krishna and the predecessor acaryas. Thus his words become surcharged with the potency to deliver everyone in this world back to home, back to Godhead.

If you will as much as possible every day, throughout the day beg Lord Krishna to make you His pure devotee, He will reciprocate with your prayers and bless you with pure devotional service.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Question: Do We Really Have Free Will?

Dear Guru,

Do we really have free will? Once knowing that the material world gives us suffering, no one would choose to stay over here. So Krishna actually sent us here to suffer. And when we say that factually we are Krishna's eternal servants, that means those qualities were programmed in us by Krishna. So there is no other way than loving Krishna. He wanted us to love and surrender to him. So then we don't have any free will.

Kindly enlighten me on this topic.

Hare krishna,
Shreyansh

Answer: We Have Free Will

Yes, we have free will. We are not robots. We decide on our own whether we want to serve Krishna or Maya (illusion). Krishna did not send us here. We came here because we wanted to live in a world in which we consider ourselves to be God. Thus we came here out of our own foolish desire.

The present day world population is so carried away by illusion that even when we tell them that this material world is a place of suffering, due to their being very materially attached, they still most foolishly desire to stay here.

Just as the hand is naturally meant to serve the entire body, we, being part of Krishna, are naturally meant to serve Him. Just as there is nothing wrong when the hand serves the whole body, similarly there is nothing wrong when we serve Krishna. If the hand tries to get nourishment by squeezing the food in his fingers without giving it to the stomach, he will get no nourishment. Similarly, if we try to enjoy separately from Krishna, we will find that it is impossible, even though sometimes we may foolishly imagine that we are happy here in this material world.

Question: How Do You Know that Krishna is God?

Hare Krishna,

Sir, all holy books say that one who is called God has no name, no shape, and no address. So how are you so sure the Krishna is God?

Is Krishna a path or a destination?

Rohit Bains

Answer: He Reveals That He Is God

In the Bhagavad-gita, which is the essence of all scriptures, Krishna reveals Himself as the Supreme God. This is accepted by all great acaryas of India. When the scriptures say that God has no name, no form, and no address this means that He has no material name, no material form, and no material address. In other words, His name, form, and address are all fully spiritual with no tinge of material contamination. His name is Absolute. His form is Absolute. And His address is in the spiritual world, beyond this world of birth and death.

Krishna’s transcendental abode is the destination of all fully self-realized souls. Krishna bhakti or devotion to Lord Krishna, as He teaches us in the Bhagavad-gita, is the path to Krishna’s abode, where His devotees serve Him eternally in a state of unlimited happiness.

Thought for the Day: Whole World is Waiting to Be Delivered

North Sydney, Australia

The whole world is simply waiting to be awakened to Krishna consciousness because Krishna consciousness is the original natural energy of every single living being throughout all of existence. Therefore those who embrace the world deliverance mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu are the greatest welfare agents in the history of this universe. I met one such empowered agent in the form of my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who gave us this mission of delivering the world. So, even though we have no qualification, we are begging his mercy and empowerment that we can now become successful in delivering the world by awakening everyone to their original, natural state of Krishna consciousness.

Question: Overcoming Distractions and Laziness?

Hare Krishna.

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
All glories to You and Gurumataji.

While reading Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Chapter 2, Verse 44 I was asking myself about my connections with the material enjoyment. I found that in past examples how distractions led me to rather enjoy myself than instead of doing some devotional service. Because of it I was prone to postpone or sometimes even not to complete the tasks I set up for my sadhana activities. Sometimes I even had problems with consistency chanting 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mahamantra every day on my japa mala beads. How to prevent distractions and how to stop myself from getting involved in enjoyment when distractions or laziness arrive.

I am begging for Your guidance.

Your student

Answer: Beg Krishna to Help You

If you will regularly every day sincerely beg Lord Krishna to protect you from distractions and laziness, He will reciprocate with your sincere prayers and bless you to always be enthusiastically absorbed in His pure devotional service.

Answers By Citing the Vedic Version

Question: Accept Everything or Fight?

Am I wrong thinking that God consciousness may differ from Krishna consciousness according to the "final destination" of the chosen path?

Are there any situations or circumstances when we should "fight against" our karma (for example in the face of violence) or we should rather humbly accept all that comes in our way? How should we act ?

Sincerely,

Lakshmipriya devi dasi

Answer: We Fight Against Evil

Since Krishna is God, God consciousness and Krishna consciousness is the same. Even Christ consciousness is the same thing as confirmed as follows by Srila Prabhupada in a conversation with Ms. Nixon:

Ms. Nixon: What is the difference between Krishna consciousness and Christ consciousness?

Srila Prabhupada: Christ consciousness is also Krishna consciousness, but because at present people do not follow the rules and regulations of Christianity -- the commandments of Jesus Christ -- they do not come to the standard of God consciousness.

If someone comes to rob us or kill us, we can fight. One time when I was a devotee in our Miami, USA temple some armed robbers came to steal the temple’s money. Instead of humbly co-operating with them I loudly yelled Lord Nrsimhadeva’s name and after that their plans were foiled. They were not able to rob us.

In the Bhagavad-gita, Krishna did not want Duryodhana to rule the world. He wanted Yudhisthira and his brothers to rule the world. Therefore he ordered Arjuna to fight. In a similar way we are fighting now against the godlessness in this world by preaching the message of Krishna vigorously in an attempt to lead the entire world out of chaos.
