Thought For The Day: Relishing Krishna's Most Amazing Pastimes

Austin, Texas USA

In all of history no one can equal or excel Krishna in the most incredibly pastimes that He performed. Who else can be 90 years old with great grandchildren while manifesting the body of 16 years old youth? Who else can lift a mountain on His little finger and hold it like an umbrella for seven days? The list of His unbelievably amazing pastimes goes on endlessly. Of course for Krishna none of these pastimes is at all difficult because He is God. He is the source of all existence and the supreme controller of absolutely everything. And the most wonderfully amazing thing of all is that that supreme controller of everything agrees to come under the control of all those who love Him purely. What could be more astoundingly amazing than this?

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Is Krishna Aware of My Chanting?

I am chanting, but what is happening? Is Lord Krishna aware of my chanting or not? When will that day come when I will achieve all happiness?

Mayank Jajodia

Answer: Yes, He is Hearing You.

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Mayank,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Krishna is fully aware and listening to you when you chant His holy names. You will achieve the supreme happiness of pure love of God when you are able to chant His names with absolute purity. To do so you must avoid the following offenses while chanting:

The offenses against the chanting of the holy name are as follows:

(1) To blaspheme the devotees who have dedicated their lives for propagating the holy name of the Lord.
(2) To consider the names of demigods like Lord Siva or Lord Brahma to be equal to, or independent of, the name of Lord Vishnu. (Sometimes the atheistic class of men take it that any demigod is as good as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vishnu. But one who is a devotee knows that no demigod, however great he may be, is independently as good as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore, if someone thinks that he can chant "Kali, Kali!" or "Durga, Durga!"and it is the same as Hare Krishna, that is the greatest offense.)
(3) To disobey the orders of the spiritual master.
(4) To blaspheme the Vedic literature or literature in pursuance of the Vedic version.
(5) To consider the glories of chanting Hare Krishna to be imaginations.
(6) To give some interpretation on the holy name of the Lord.
(7) To commit sinful activities on the strength of the holy name of the Lord. (It should not be taken that because by chanting the holy name of the Lord one can be freed from all kinds of sinful reaction, one may continue to act sinfully and after that chant Hare Krishna to neutralize his sins. Such a dangerous mentality is very offensive and should be avoided.)
(8) To consider the chanting of Hare Krishna one of the auspicious ritualistic activities offered in the Vedas as fruitive activities (karma-kanda).
(9) To instruct a faithless person about the glories of the holy name. (Anyone can take part in chanting the holy name of the Lord, but in the beginning one should not be instructed about the transcendental potency of the Lord. Those who are too sinful cannot appreciate the transcendental glories of the Lord, and therefore it is better not to instruct them in this matter.)
(10) To not have complete faith in the chanting of the holy names and to maintain material attachments, even after understanding so many instructions on this matter.

It is also offensive to be inattentive while chanting.

Every devotee who claims to be a Vaisnava must guard against these offenses in order to quickly achieve the desired success, Krishna prema, pure love of God.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Thought For The Day: Expert Time Management

Austin, Texas USA

The perfection of time management is to see that every moment of time belongs to Krishna and hence should be fully engaged in His service. If one has this fixity of mind, Krishna will give him the intelligence how to balance of all his material and spiritual duties in such a way that he will successfully awaken his dormant Krishna consciousness and triumphantly push forward the Krishna consciousness movement for the deliverance of the fallen, conditioned souls from their entanglement in the cycle of repeated birth, death, old age, and disease.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: How to Deal with Materialists?

How to deal with highly egoistic people in our day-to-day life, with whom we have to interact? Should we avoid them, correct them, or tolerate them?

Thank You.

With Regards,

Golok Das

Answer: Here's How

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Golok,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

In dealing with materialists we should flatter them one hundred times and then ask them to give up their nonsense and chant Hare Krishna. In this regard Srila Prabhupada explains as follows:

“This is a verse by Prabhodananda Sarasvati, a great devotee of Lord Caitanya. He submitted this verse, that dante nidhaya trnakam padayor nipatya: “My dear sir, I have taken a grass in my mouth, and I am falling down on your feet, and I am flattering you hundreds of ways,”aham bravimi, “I am submitting something to you.” So those who are going to preach this philosophy, they have to adopt this means. Humbly, most humbly, submissive, padayor nipatya krtva ca kaku-satam aham bravimi. He sadhavah: “You are very nice man. You are very honest man, sadhu.” Sakalam eva vihaya durat! “You give up all these nonsense things! Any nonsense, give up. Simply,”sakalam eva vihaya durat caitanya-candra-carane kurutanuragam, “simply you submit unto the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya and chant Hare Krishna.”

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: The Perfection of Meditation

Austin, Texas USA

Chanting the holy names of God is the perfection of meditation. There is no system of spiritual awakening which is simultaneously both this powerful and this easy. It is so easy that even a small child can do it. And it is so powerful that it is the best of all spiritual awakening systems even for the most powerful yogi. So who is that fool who would not take advantage of this most sublime process, which is especially recommended in the scriptures for this age? Here it is:

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

If one chants these sacred syllables on chanting beads at least sixteen times around the beads every day while simultaneously avoiding illicit sex, meat eating, intoxication and gambling, he can be initiated by the bona fide spiritual master and can thus become qualified to go back to home, back to Godhead at the time of leaving his present material body. This is the perfection of the human form of life. May the whole world now accept this process.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: How to Do Japa?

Dear Guru Maharaja,

Please guide me what is the process to do Japa.

Purusottam Das

Answer: Here's How

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Purusottam,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Bhakti yoga practice includes chanting the Hare Krishna mantra softly to oneself. This is called japa.

While chanting, you'll keep the sacred japa beads in a bead bag to keep them clean and off the floor. One side of the bag is large enough to insert your hand. Your index finger comes out of the smaller hole on the other side, to help you hold on to the bag. Place your beads in the bag, and you’re ready to go.

Serious bhakti yoga practitioners chant a minimum of sixteen rounds every day, which means chanting sixteen times around the beads every day (1,728 repetitions of the mahamantra), because this is what solidly fixes one's mind in Krishna consciousness. This 16 rounds per day minimum is required to become formally initiated as a disciple of a bona fide spiritual master. The main purpose of the beads is to keep track of the number of mantras chanted. Fingering the beads also engages your sense of touch and helps to focus your mind on the activity of chanting.

There are 108 beads and one larger bead, known as the head bead. Begin with the larger bead next to the head bead. Gently roll the bead between the thumb and middle finger of your right hand while chanting:

Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Then move forward to the next bead (pulling the bead towards you, into your hand) and repeat the mantra. In this way, continue chanting on each of the 108 beads in the strand until you again reach the bead just before the head bead (which is not chanted on.) This is known as one round of japa and usually takes from six to ten minutes. At this point you reverse your direction to start your next round of japa.

It is beneficial to chant the Pancha-tattva mantra before beginning your japa meditation. This is a prayer to Krishna's most merciful avatara, Lord Chaitanya and His associates, to help us become ecstatic and avoid offenses while chanting.

sri-krishna-chaitanya prabhu-nityananda
sri-advaita gadadhara
srivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrinda

"I offer my obeisances to Sri Krishna Chaitanya, Prabhu Nityananda, Sri Advaita, Gadadhara, Srivasa and all others in the line of devotion."

If you are going to chant more than one round of japa, then, without chanting on the head bead, turn the strand around and begin the next round. (Continue pulling beads towards you, as before.) You should have a string of counter beads tied to your bead bag on which you can keep track of the number of rounds you have chanted by moving one counter bead for each round. Chant clearly and try to hear the holy names with attention. By chanting the Hare Krishna mantra you are calling out to Sri Sri Radha and Krishna to engage you in Their pure devotional service. So always chant in this mood of begging them in this way, and you will have the most profound life of spiritual awakening fully qualifying yourself to regain your eternal spiritual identity that you were originally situated in before you foolishly misused your independence and fell into this miserable material world.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Thought For The Day: You Can Be a Great Hero

Austin, Texas USA

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada describes in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, Fourth Canto, Chapter Nine, Text 50 that a devotee is a great hero because he conquers the influence of maya. He writes there, "When Lord Caitanya inquired from Ramananda Raya about the most famous man in this world, the latter replied that anyone who is known as a great devotee of the Lord is to be accepted as the most famous."

So the true heroes in this world are those who conquer over the influence of maya or illusion by fully absorbing their thoughts, words, and deeds in all times, places, and circumstances in the loving service of Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The so-called famous people of this world come and go like the passing of the seasons and are soon forgotten. But those who become awakened in pure love of God achieve a fame which never goes away and continues to expand and expand forever.

Thought For The Day: I Want You to Be Happy

I want you to be happy. That's why I am taking so much time and trouble to produce Thought for the Day and Video for the Day every day, even though it is sometimes with great difficulty that I do so.There is no reason for anyone in any corner of the world to be unhappy because the state of pure unadulterated bliss is the natural constitutional position of every living being. It is only due to foolish misidentification with matter that anyone is unhappy. Therefore our goal in this Krishna consciousness movement is that by the higher education of Vedic knowledge we can elevate the entire world population to the spiritual platform so that everyone is fully, completely happy in all times, places, and circumstances.

Question: Personal Relationship with Guru

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada, to You and all ISKCON heroes.

I am sorry if my question will be stupid. I am very fearful to ask live questions when there are many people in lectures. Is it because of my lack of Krisna consciousness? But I have been practicing japa, reading Prabhupada since 2013 Spring secretly, but you do not know me. I have still been working at Prasadam restaurant in Lithuania. I admire your wonderful dedication for Prabhupada. So I was chanting your pranama mantra till now, which you let me to chant by mail in August 2, 2017. When you come to Lithuania I usually come to listen your one lecture live and other lectures listen on the Internet. Our goal: to remember Krishna always and to deliver the suffering humanity back to Godhead unites us. But how to create personal relation with guru if I do not have a possibility to know you personally and if you do not know me personally? I have your picture at restaurant and at home and on mobile. My colleague senior devotee says a guru knows, feels gently when I offer some food to deities through you. Therefore how to create a relation between a guru and a disciple, you and me?

Your student,
Ieva

Answer: Accept His Orders As Your Life and Soul

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Ieva,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The spiritual master has two manifestations: vani and vapuh. Vapuh is his physical presence, and vani is his instructions. Vapuh is sometimes present and sometimes not present. But vani, the instructional presence of the spiritual master, is always available for the sincere disciple. This means that if you take the spiritual master's instructions very seriously accepting them as your very life and soul, you are always packed up tightly with your spiritual master, never being separated from him even for a moment for all of eternity. So now do that and you will enter into the state of pure, unadulterated bliss.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Killing Cows Turns Our World into a Slaughterhouse

When we are little babies we start off getting our much needed nutrition by drinking our mother's breast milk. Then when we grow up a little bit we get nourished by drinking the breast milk our second mother, the cow. Just as we would never think of killing our mother, we should also not think of killing our second mother, the cow. But yet in our modern day civilization this is what is going on, wholesale slaughter of our mother, the cow. This must now be stopped! The karmic reaction of cow killing is producing so much war and violence. When we send our mother to the slaughterhouse, we turn the whole world into a slaughterhouse. Just like now we see in the news that there are many ghastly shootings every day in which many people are being killed. This is a direct karmic reaction because of cow killing. If these foolish rascals will simply stop killing the cows, the entire atmosphere on this planet will wonderfully change. May that day come soon! May that day come soon!

Question: How to Ask for Money and Get It?

What can I do to ask someone for money so that he or she will give it to me? What can I do to get such power?

Omorogbe

Answer: Use Money Only for God's Purpose

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Omorogbe,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The secret of becoming wealthy is to engage whatever wealth you have now (no matter how meager) 100% in the service of God. When you do this sincerely, God will be very pleased with you and will give you more wealth to engage in His service. In fact, this technique is so powerful that if you sincerely practice it, you will become the wealthiest businessman in the whole world. The difficulty is that instead of engaging our wealth in the Lord's service we spend it for sense gratification. Therefore we remain poor.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Turn On Your Soul

Austin, Texas USA

I was very happy to learn from my disciple, Mahabhagavat Das, that a young devotee named Krishnakumar Mani has posted a YouTube video of himself singing my song "Turn On Your Soul." He has made a very nice arrangement, which you can hear in Video for the Day below. Our goal is to train everyone in the world how to turn on their soul because right now everyone's soul is covered by material consciousness. Thus the world is in a horrible state of complete darkness. If we can induce everyone to turn on their soul, the whole world will become peaceful and happy, and everyone will go back to home, back to Godhead when they leave their present bodies.

Question: I'm in Trouble. How to Connect with God?

Dear Guru Maharaja,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

Recently I went through serious problems due to some conflict with my in-law relatives. After those conflicts there has been a legal agreement signed between myself and my in-laws that we both parties will never interact with each other from today onwards till lifelong, otherwise it would be a violation of law.

So my question is that since all of my worldly relations are almost over now, I want to connect with God and only His devotees. I need your support and guidance during this crucial phase of my life. Kindly guide me what to do. I would be highly thankful to you.

Kind regards,
Your student

Why only when you are in difficulty you seek guidance? Your duty is to be under the guidance of the spiritual master in all times both of happiness and distress. If you had had this mood, you would have known how to deal nicely with your in-laws to avoid conflict. But because you only seek guidance when you are in distress this conflict has come. So this is really your fault.

But better late than never. Strictly follow the guidelines given in the link below and make your life unlimitedly sublime.

Thought For The Day: The Science of Love

Austin, Texas USA

In this world everyone is looking for love. Everyone wants to be loved. But they are not satisfied because they not tasting or experiencing the pure love that they desire. This is so because they are not properly educated in the science of love. So what is the science of love?

When you water the root of a tree all the leaves and branches are nourished. Similarly when you give food to your belly all of your bodily parts get the energy they need. So when you give your love to that Supreme Person, who is the source of all existence, your love is automatically distributed to all living beings throughout all of existence.

And here's where it gets even more exciting. The more you give love, the more you get, experience, or taste love. So when you master the science of love by total absorption in love of the Supreme Person, you relish the bliss rain of being in a shower of unlimited love.

One may try to figure out what this would be like through mental speculation and never be able to grasp it. But if one just does it, if he will simply give his love fully to the Supreme Person, he will fully comprehend exactly what I am talking about.

So, how to do this? How to master this science of love? This is learned by becoming the submissive student/disciple of the bona fide spiritual master. So why postpone this causing yourself unnecessary distress? Become now the disciple of the bona fide spiritual master and fill you life with unlimited spiritual bliss. Don't hesitate. Don't prolong your misery. Surrender yourself now to the bona fide spiritual master. It will be the smartest decision that you have made in millions and billions of lifetimes.

Question: What is Vaisnava Seva?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

In your lecture dated 22 November 2009 you said,

"We can get as much as nama ruci (relishing the sweet taste of Krishna's holy names) as much as we have vaishnava seva ruci. If I have no vaishnava seva ruci, I can go on chanting Hare Krishna for millions of years and never develop one pinch of nama ruci. Therefore just see how important is this vaishnava seva. This is our only hope for becoming Krishna conscious."

Will you please enlighten me what exactly is vaishnava seva?

Thank you for your precious time.

Answer: Loving Service to Krishna's Devotees

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Rashmi,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Vaisnava seva is loving service to the devotees of Krishna. It is a fact that the more we lovingly serve the Lord's devotees, the more we will relish the unlimitedly sweet nectar which is there in Krishna's holy names. Therefore we should fully absorb ourselves in loving service to the spiritual master and to all of Krishna's devotees. In this way we will be swimming eternally in an ocean of unlimited, ever-increasing spiritual bliss.

Thought For The Day: Real Religion is the Perfection of Psychology

Austin, Texas USA

Recently one of our subscribers cancelled his subscription to our e-course stating that he was looking for a psychological approach to self-realization rather than a religious approach. Our reader failed to comprehend that genuine religion is the perfection of psychology. While we can understand someone's being disgusted with the multitude of pseudo religions being forced upon the ignorant people of the world, rejecting genuine religion is just as ignorant as accepting pseudo religion.

So how is it that genuine religion is the perfection of psychology? This I will now explain.

Actual religion means to reconnect with the source of one's existence. Just as an electrical appliance must be plugged into the electrical power house in order to function, we psychologically require to be connected with the source of our existence in order the properly function. That connecting process is love. It is a psychological fact that without love no one can be happy. The perfection of psychology is to have a perfect loving relationship with that Supreme Person who is the source of all existence. Therefore the perfection of psychology and the perfection of religion is one and the same.

So I hope that our confused former subscriber will realize his mistake and rejoin our course. We have written him as seen below in the Answers section.

Thought For The Day: The Most Powerful Person in the World

Austin, Texas USA

In his purport to Sri Caitanya-caritamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 7, Text 83 my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada writes:

"A sincere student aurally receives the holy name from the spiritual master, and after being initiated he follows the regulative principles given by the spiritual master. When the holy name is properly served in this way, automatically the spiritual nature of the holy name spreads; in other words, the devotee becomes qualified in offenselessly chanting the holy name. When one is completely fit to chant the holy name in this way, he is eligible to make disciples all over the world, and he actually becomes jagad-guru. Question: Am I Your Disciple?

Guru Maharaja, Hare Krishna!

Please accept my humble obeisances.
Jaya Srila Prabhupada!

I understand the requirements for initiation: six months of consistency in 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra daily and following the four regulative principles. Then I can be formally initiated by a spiritual master. I will be 100% by January 1.

Will you act as my spiritual master? I truly feel in my heart that it is right.

Is it only proper to call oneself a disciple after initiation?

Your eternal servant,
Jane Harper

Answer: You Are My Aspiring Disciple

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Jane,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

There are two kinds of spiritual masters: siksha guru, the instructing spiritual master, and diksha guru, the initiating spiritual master. Generally the instructing spiritual master becomes one's initiating spiritual master when one takes initiation.

Regarding our relationship, since you are taking instructions and guidance from me I am already your spiritual master, your instructing guru. Then when you take initiation from me, in addition to my being your instructing guru I will also be your initiating guru.

Since you are not yet initiated by me, but are aspiring to be initiated by me, you are my aspiring disciple.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

Thought For The Day: Stressless Ultimate Success

Austin, Texas USA

In this material world everyone wants to be successful, and they undergo so much stress in their attempt to achieve this goal. The pitiable thing is that even though those who achieve some success find some temporary happiness, they are ultimately miserable failures because of their being defeated by old age, disease, and death.

But it does not have to be this way. Under the proper guidance of the bona fide spiritual master anyone can achieve stressless ultimate success, which can never be defeated even by old age and death. I was most fortunate half a century ago to be educated in this way by a bona fide spiritual master. And now on his order, if you are willing to learn, I am passing the same training on to you. I hope that you will be able to understand and implement this unlimitedly valuable system of spiritual awakening and make your life unlimitedly successful, stress free, and sublime.

Question: What is Pleasure, Joy, and Bliss?

I wish to know the meaning and definition of the terms pleasure, joy and bliss. Please reply when convenient.

With regards from
Suresh Vachharajani

Answer: Uninterrupted Ecstasy

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Suresh,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Real pleasure, joy, and bliss is uninterrupted ecstasy, happiness that never is minimized or destroyed by any kind of material situation. This means that the pleasure, joy, and bliss which is experienced by the common man in this world is not genuine pleasure, joy, and bliss. It is only a shadow or perverted reflection of the genuine pleasure, joy, and bliss which is tasted uninterruptedly and ever-increasingly by those who have become fully spiritually awakened.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Perseverance Furthers

Austin, Texas USA

It is very wisely stated in the ancient Chinese wisdom, "Perseverance furthers." The same principle is taught in the even more ancient Vedic wisdom. The bhakti yogi, or Krishna consciousness practitioner, should be determined and should patiently prosecute the practice of devotion without deviation. One should be sure of success at the end and pursue this course with great perseverance, not becoming discouraged if there is any delay in the attainment of success. Success is sure for the rigid practitioner. In this regard Rupa Gosvami states:

utsahan niscayad dhairyat
tat-tat-karma-pravartanat
sanga-tyagat sato vrtteh
sadbhir bhaktih prasidhyati

"One can execute the process of bhakti-yoga successfully with full-hearted enthusiasm, perseverance, and determination, by following the prescribed duties in the association of devotees and by engaging completely in activities of goodness." (Upadesamrta 3)

So let us all take advantage of this wisdom and attain the ultimate success of awakening pure love of God within our hearts.

Question: How to Overcome Laziness?

I am so lazy that I cannot consistently engage myself in serving Krishna. What should I do?

Yogesh Sharma,
Noida, U.P.
India.

Answer: By Love

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Yogesh,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The simple formula for overcoming laziness is to give your love to Krishna. A mother works very hard day and night taking care of her new born baby. But she never feels that she is working. She only thinks how much she loves her baby. So in this same way, if you will give your love to Krishna, you can work hard to serve Him day and night without ever feeling that you are working. In this way you will totally conquer over laziness.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Become Guru and Deliver the Whole World.

Austin, Texas USA

On 17 December 1973, in a lecture on the Srimad Bhagavatam given in Los Angeles, California USA, Srila Prabhupada requested that those persons who have taken to Krishna consciousness should become perfect in their understanding of this science and should become guru and deliver the whole world. Thus we, his followers, are obliged to carry out this order and make the whole world Krishna conscious as soon as possible. To become empowered to do this we must chant Krishna's holy names the prescribed minimum of at least sixteen rounds of japa daily without offense and we must understand and repeat the teachings of Krishna exactly as Srila Prabhupada has given them to us without any misrepresentation or adulteration. In this way our movement will never be checked and we will be successful in making the whole world Krishna conscious as soon as possible.

Thought For The Day: I Have a Dream

Austin, Texas USA

I have a dream of a world:
where everybody is Krishna conscious,
where all women are honored as mothers not as sex objects,
where cows are milked but not slaughtered,
where everyone wears Vaisnava tilaka and all religions are cherished and adored by everyone,
where everyone joyfully chants the holy names of God according to their religious tradition,
and where nobody is disturbed by birth, death, old age, and disease because they have all realized that they are not their bodies, having fully absorbed their every thought, word, and deed in all times, places, and circumstances in the loving service of that Supreme Person with unlimited names who is the source of everyone and in the loving service of all those who are dedicated to Him.

I pray that this dream may come true before I leave my present body or if Krishna desires that I may take birth after birth in this material existence until this dream comes true.

Question: Would the Human Race Become Extinct?

I noted in your writings, "...then everyone would enter the Kingdom of God at time of death." If this is indeed possible, wouldn't that gradually lead to the disappearance of the human race, since souls need to reincarnate to ensure that the human race does not become extinct?

Regards,
Chandrika

Answer: No

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas

My Dear Chandrika,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

If all prisoners in all prisons became reformed and were released to become free citizens and no one else ever became a criminal, all prisons would be permanently closed much to the delight of the everyone. No one would lament that the prisons were closed.

In this regard kindly note that there are humans residing eternally in the spiritual world who never deviate from pure loving service to Krishna, and who never get sick, never get old, and never die. If all the humans here in this material world got transferred back to their original home in that infinitely wonderful spiritual world, no one would lament that the material prison was closed.

However, because there are always foolish living beings leaving the spiritual world to see if they can be happier somewhere else, this material prison will go on for all of eternity. Therefore regarding your question, you have nothing to worry about, that is if you find, out of some sentiment, that permanently closing the material prison is problematic.

Now its up to you to decide whether you want to remain a prisoner here shackled by birth, death, old age, and disease or whether you would rather be an eternal, disease-free youth residing forever in the unlimitedly blissful spiritual world, never to be shackled in the prison of material existence ever again.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Why Hare Krishnas Love Jesus

Austin, Texas USA

Lord Krishna says that unless we love those who perfectly represent Him we have no love for Him. This means to whatever extent we have learned to love His representatives to that extent our love for Him is awakened. Therefore those who are serious about awakening their dormant love for Krishna actively cultivate loving relationships with those, such as Lord Jesus Christ, who purely represent God,

Our Christian friends say that Jesus is the only way, and we agree with them because the way that He teaches, the way of total surrender to the will of God, is indeed the only way. This is confirmed by my spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, who has stated as follows:

"Yes, he is the only way. We also admit. Because he is the representative of God. So if you want to approach God, you must approach through His representative."

My proposal is that since there is common thread of total surrender to the will of God running through all varieties of religions, all religious people on this planet should now unite as one religion to defeat Godlessness. Just as one house has many rooms, we can all live together in one house while at the same time keeping our separate rooms.

Question: What is Your Intention When Singing Kirtana?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my most humble obeisances
All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Every letter I get from you is overflowing with mercy, and it takes some time to digest. It is the unexplainable mercy of Srimati Radharani and Krishna that at this moment I can write a message to my spiritual master. I have got a guitar and am creating random songs how I am not this body and I am spirit soul. Maybe one day my husband and I will learn to play nicely. He wants to learn and sing the Hare Krishna mahamantra as he knows I love it. That’s very good and softens my heart. Maybe one day he will desire to sing it for Krishna's pleasure too. The guitar reminds me how the first time I saw your video in which you were singing your song "Turn on Your Soul," and after years I found myself living in the room at Vedic centre where you performed that song!

I did kirtana in our London Soho temple with a friend on the appearance day of Srila Prabhupada and she said it was so amazing and blissful and it must be so since as my spiritual master is such great singer so I’m getting blessings. I feel very much blessed by you and Srila Prabhupada!

Gurudeva, I wanted to ask when you lead kirtana what intentions do you personally have while chanting? Is it something like praying to Krishna to purify all souls who are in room ? What intention should I have in my heart and how should I meditate on my spiritual master? Should I imagine you are listening and pray for them ? What would Srila Prabhupada and you like my mood to be like while leading kirtana ? What is the key, what is the secret of your ecstatic kirtana ?

Srila Prabhupada says that pure chanting influences the whole world to chant Hare Krishna. So I try to chant with pure love to give unlimited pleasure to Lord Krishna and for the deliverance of all living beings who are currently entangled in the cycle of birth and death. You may also chant this same mood.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Back from the Road, Hankering for a Krishnized World

Austin, Texas

We're back now at our world headquarters in Austin, Texas. I am begging Lord Sri Krishna that as soon as possible the entire world can be awakened to Krishna consciousness. I am not very happy to see everyone suffering in the cycle of birth and death. Because of maya's influence they think that there is some enjoyment to be had in this material existence when factually there is none. If somehow or other we can attract them to this sublime process of Krishna consciousness, everyone will be happy. Then there will be the most sublime era of world peace, the like of which the world has not know for thousands of years.

Thought For The Day: For Unlimited Bliss We Have to Be Who We Are

Tallinn, Estonia

As long as we keep endeavoring to find genuine happiness and satisfaction on a false platform of the self we are sure to be baffled. This is why we should take help from those who have realized the actual nature of the self in our pursuit of fulfillment. The false platform that I am referring to is the material body. As long as we consider ourselves to be these material bodies, which are destined to get sick, get old, and die, there is no way that we can be genuinely happy. This is so because any happiness which is limited or restricted is not real happiness. Even while we are enjoying it we are experiencing the anxiety of knowing that it will sooner or later be finished. This is why material happiness is call maya-sukhaya, illusory happiness. Real happiness must be completely free from the even slightest tinge of anxiety. This pure happiness is only available on the spiritual platform. It is tasted when we know and realize our factual identities as the eternal servants of Krishna or God and sincerely engage in His service. This is when we experience the unlimited bliss of knowing who we are actually are and are thus re-situated in our original constitutional position of unlimited happiness.

Question: Should We Stop Doing Work?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada

In today's thought of the day, you have quoted this verse:

sarva-dharman parityajya
mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo
moksayisyami ma sucah

"Abandon all varieties of duties and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear."

Does this mean we stop doing any work? Because whatever we do, it is sure to generate some reactions. How the world will exist then?

Thank you for your precious time.

Rashmi Tangri

Answer: No. We Should Work for Krishna.

From: Tallinn, Estonia

My Dear Rashmi,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Krishna means exactly what He says. We have absolutely no other duty than serving Him. However, this does not mean that we should give up our occupational duties. This means that we should offer our occupational duties in Krishna's service just as Arjuna did when he engaged his occupational duty as a warrior in Krishna's service.

These occupational duties are temporary. Just like, as a youth, one is a student. Then one accepts a profession. And then one becomes retired. These duties are not the constitutional nature of the self because they come and go. But what remains in all phases of life is that 'I am the eternal servant of Krishna or God.'

Occupational duties offered fully in Krishna's service do not generate any karmic reactions.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Celebrating Srila Prabhupada's Disappearance

Tallinn, Estonia

As I write these words on 11 November 2018 it is the disappearance day of my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. How can I say that we are celebrating his disappearance? Normally when a person dies it is not a time of celebration unless everybody hates him. When our loved ones die it is a time of great mourning, not a time of celebration. So how can I be writing about celebrating the disappearance of my spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, from this world? The answer is that such great personalities do not die like ordinary people who are dragged by their karma to suffer the reactions of their sinful activities into another material body. Great souls do not really die. They are transferred directly to the spiritual world where they revive their eternal, youthful spiritual bodies. And simultaneously they remain here with us within our hearts blessing us with their divine instructions and transformational association.

Bhaktivinoda Thakura wrote about the influence that a Vaisnava (a pure devotee of the Lord) carries in this world even after his passing:

"He reasons ill who tells that Vaisnavas die
When thou art living still in sound!
The Vaisnavas die to live, and living try
To spread the holy name around!"

So, while it is natural for us to be sorrowful that Srila Prabhupada has passed away, we can know for sure that he will never pass away, for he is "living still in sound." As he himself said, "I will never die. I will live forever in my books." In the days and years to come, let us all then remember Srila Prabhupada in the same way that he remembers his spiritual master: "He lives forever by his divine instructions, and the follower lives with him." In this way we can always celebrate and be uplifted by the wonderful mercy of his divine association at every minute.

Even though he had over 5,000 disciples Srila Prabhupada always took care of my spiritual training in a very personal, warm loving way. When there was a large gathering of his disciples in Los Angeles he singled me out from the crowd personally making sure that I had gotten one of the flowers that he distributing to each devotee.

And even though he has been departed now for 41 years, he is still with us, blessing us and guiding us with his divine association and instructions at every minute for our spiritual perfection and for the inundation of this entire world with a tidal wave of Krishna prema, pure love of God, for delivering the suffering souls of this world back to their original, eternal identities in their real home in the spiritual sky.

Question: Sectarian and Sanatana Dharma?

What is the difference between sectarian and sanatana dharma?

Shubham Bansal

Answer: One is Perfect, the Other Imperfect

From: Tallinn, Estonia

My Dear Shubham,

Sectarian dharma is imperfect because it is based on the false bodily conception of life, which is not the actual nature of the self.

But sanatana dharma (eternal duty) is perfect because it is based on the factual spiritual nature of reality. Your sanatana dharma is to serve the Supreme Lord with love and devotion. This dharma brings unlimited satisfaction to the self.

Thought For The Day: The Whole World is Hankering

On the road to Tallinn, Estonia

Everyone in the world is hankering for a state of uninterrupted happiness. And they are struggling for it every day in so many different futile attempts like fools with their heads in the sand. The difficulty is that they are trying to find this happiness on the level of identifying themselves with their material bodies, which is a big mistake. This is why they never are able to achieve that uninterrupted happiness for which they always hanker. This true happiness can only be experienced on the spiritual platform when one realizes that he is a spiritual being who is qualitatively one with God and whose duty is serve God twenty-four hours daily with his every thought, word, and deed in all times, places, and circumstances. The science of devotion has been taught all the great spiritual teachers throughout the ages. And it can be learned now from the bona fide spiritual master.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: Following Guru is Required?

Do we need to strictly follow the guru?

As per below verse from Bhagavad-gita (3.35), Lord Krishna mentions:

sreyan sva-dharmo vigunah
para-dharmat sv-anusthitat
sva-dharme nidhanam sreyah
para-dharmo bhayavahah

"It is far better to discharge one's prescribed duties, even though faultily, than another's duties perfectly. Destruction in the course of performing one's own duty is better than engaging in another's duties, for to follow another's path is dangerous."

I am confused, whether we need to follow the guru or not. Kindly advise.

Best Regards,
Chandra Neeli

Answer: Absolutely

From: On the road to Tallinn, Estonia

My Dear Chandra,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Occupational duties vary. For example, someone is a doctor, someone is a soldier, someone is a farmer, and someone is a prime minister. In their respective occupations these persons act in different capacities. However, Lord Krishna states in the Bhagavad-gita (18.66) that beyond or higher than all of these occupational duties is the duty to fully surrender unto Him:

sarva-dharman parityajya
mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo
moksayisyami ma sucah

"Abandon all varieties of duties and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear."

He further instructs in the Bhagavad-gita (4.32) that for the mastery of this art of surrender one is required to become the disciple of a bona fide spiritual master.

tad viddhi pranipatena
pariprasnena sevaya
upadeksyanti te jñanam
jñaninas tattva-darsinah

"Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized soul can impart knowledge unto you because he has seen the truth."

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Riding the Waves on the Ocean of Bliss

Riga, Latvia

Nowadays surfing is a very popular sport. But such surfers are surfing in the ocean of birth, death, old age, and disease. Those who have been blessed with higher knowledge are surfing in a different ocean. They are surfing in the ocean of eternity, knowledge, and bliss in which there is no birth, no death, no old age, and no disease. By giving one's heart to that Supreme Person who is the source of all the oceans one is able to enter the spiritual world, that transcendental world where all miseries are conspicuous by their absence. This is the kind of surfing that I love like anything. It is unlimitedly ecstatic. I am always riding a super fantastic wave at every moment.

Question: Balance of Births and Deaths?

Hare Krishna, Sir,

Nowadays, more births take place than deaths. How is the balance maintained? After reading your writings I get the impression that when the body dies, the soul enters a new born body in the womb. Kindly clarify.

Kind regards.

From: Riga, Latvia

My Dear Nilkamal,

The death rate for those who are born is 100%. In other words if you analyze it from the long run perspective, there is always an equal number of births and deaths.

Kindly note in this connection that because of the animalistic nature of our so-called human society most of today's humans will take birth as animals in their next life.

Thought For The Day: From Krishna With Love

Riga, Latvia

I hope you are enjoying the program called "Reality" brought to you with love by our sponsor, Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Because of His having the power to enjoy unlimitedly along with the power to do anything He wants, Lord Sri Krishna is manifesting from Himself an unlimited number of living beings with each of whom He can enjoy a unique type of loving relationship. So this is why we exist, to have our own completely unique personal loving relationship with God, not a carbon copy relationship, a totally unique loving relationship.

Sorry, Charlie Darwin. You had it wrong. Your theory was based on blind faith, not scientific facts. (To see how Darwin is refuted click here.)

We exist simply for the purpose of having a loving relationship with Krishna. This is our natural position, just like a fish in the water. If the fish tries to enjoy on the land, he cannot do so because that is not his natural environment. Similarly, we cannot enjoy at all outside of a loving relationship with Krishna or God. The only enjoyment we can get in this way is illusory enjoyment, imagining that we are enjoying, which is nothing more than a useless piece of junk.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: How to Defeat "Truth is Relative"?

I meet so many people that believe truth is relative and they hold strong to their convictions due to nonsense philosophers such as Nietzsche and post-modernist ideology.

How can I convince these individuals that we must accept knowledge from higher authorities? Of course I ask this realizing that I must dive deeper into the Holy Name and become a better servant of those that love Krishna with all their heart, to become empowered to carry out Srila Prabhupada's mission.

Joe

Answer: Ask Them If They Are Absolutely Sure

From: Kaunas, Lithuania

My Dear Joe,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Defeating them is a piece of cake. When they argue that there are no absolutes that truth is only relative, ask them if they are absolutely sure. If they say "yes", they are defeated because they have just stated an absolute, and if they say "no," they are defeated because they have admitted they don't know what they are talking about.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: We Can Conquer the World in Eighteen Days

Kaunas, Lithuania

My spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, said that if we simply co-operate with him, we can make the whole world Krishna conscious in 18 days. Krishna conscious means a state of perfect peace and prosperity for all by being perfectly in harmony with the Supreme Person, Who is the source of all existence. Therefore out of compassion on the millions and billions of people who are in suffering conditions on this planet those who are wise and compassionate follow the directions of this great spiritual master for the ultimate benefit of all living beings. I have been personally molding my life according to his sublime instructions for the last 47 years, and I can confirm from my own multi-decades experience how valid and uplifting his divine instructions are for me and for all those who have the made the wise decision of following them.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: How to Find a Bona Fide Guru?

How can a person find a right guru (bonafide) in this age where so much duplicity and cheating tendency is predominant?

In comparison to Vedic times, how to select any guru or a disciple is totally changed. Even more, I feel shocked to see new ways which brought by ISKCON GBC which it decide guru and disciples relationship, rather than guru and disciple themselves. How authorized is this process? Please forgive me if I offend this system. Please enlighten in this aspect.

Answer: Find the One Who is Strictly Following His Guru

From: Kaunas, Lithuania

My Dear Harish,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The Guru/Disciple relationship is defined in the Vedic literatures. The GBC supports this principle. The bona fide guru is the one who does not deviate even slightly from the instructions of the previous acarya. So find that devotee who is purely presenting Srila Prabhupada's teachings with no additions and subtractions. Fully surrender unto him accepting him as your eternal spiritual master. This will be your success of your eternal existence.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Be Kind to Yourself

Kaunas, Lithuania

Our advice to everyone in the world is "Be kind to yourself." In this connection it is also said, "Charity begins at home." The beginning of kindness is to be merciful to yourself by putting yourself in the most advantageous position for becoming totally, completely satisfied in your life. In other words, why torture yourself unnecessarily when you could be tasting unlimited bliss at every minute? To do so would make absolutely no sense. But yet due to ignorance of the science of the self, the whole world is suffering like anything on the roller coaster ride of happiness and distress, sometimes miserable, sometimes better, sometimes miserable, etc. Therefore those who are enlightened with transcendental knowledge, feeling compassion for those who are so tightly entangled in birth, death, old age, and disease, fully dedicate their lives for enlightening as many souls as possible in the science of the self so that they can also taste the transcendental bliss of being re-established in their original intimate loving relationship with that supreme all-beautiful, all-powerful, all-renounced, all-knowing, all-wealthy, and all-famous person who is the source of all existence.

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Thought For The Day: This Material World is a Dangerous Place

Kaunas, Lithuania

It is sometimes said that this material world is not a fit place for gentleman's living. This is because there is danger here at every step. Anybody can be killed unexpectedly at any moment without any warning. Just like recently some girl scouts were picking up garbage on the side of the road when a car accidentally veered off of the road and killed them. Such a dangerous atmosphere is not our actual home. We are like fish out of the water here. We are meant to live in an atmosphere where death and all forms of material misery are conspicuous by their absence. The bona fide spiritual master is our travel agent to guide us how to return to that original, natural, all-blissful atmosphere. We should therefore take full advantage of his directions and make our lives unlimitedly happy and successful.

This is what I have done, and I advise the same for you. I would like for you to also experience the peace and happiness that I am experiencing every day in all situations.

Question: Karma for Killing a Mosquito?

Many people suffer disease and death due to mosquito bites. Can it be said that they killed mosquitoes in the past and that is why they have to suffer like this as a karmic reaction?

Thank You.
With Regards,

Golok Das

Answer: Be Killed by the Mosquito

From: Kaunas, Lithuania

My Dear Golok,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Yes, if someone is killed by a mosquito, this means that in a previous life they had killed the living being who was in the mosquito body and who is now killing them. This same karmic principle was a taught by Sir Isaac Newton in his famous third law of motion, who observed that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Traveling to Spread the Rays of the Benediction Moon

Kaunas, Lithuania

On 3 November 2018 we traveled 138 kilometers from Kaunas, Lithuania to Utena, Lithuania to spread the soothing rays of the benediction moon of Krishna consciousness in that dark corner of the world. In every corner of the world people are suffering due to their lack of Krishna consciousness. Therefore the highest welfare activity is the distribution of Krishna consciousness. About 35 people showed up to hear my lecture. We started the program with a super-ecstatic kirtana, and many of the people chanted with us getting the golden opportunity to relish Krishna's sweet, sweet holy names.

There is no reason for anybody to ever be miserable again because within each of us there is a reservoir of unlimited pleasure, an ocean of unbounded happiness. Thought For The Day: You Owe to Yourself to Be Who You Are

Kaunas, Lithuania

Stop being duped by the false propaganda that you are that rotting, dying material body. What could be more depressing and ludicrous than that? The real fact to celebrate is that you are an eternal spiritual being, full of knowledge and full of bliss. The bona fide spiritual master teaches how to get back into your original, pure spiritual identity, where you once belonged before you fell into illusion. Therefore those who are factually intelligent take advantage of the bona fide spiritual master and make their lives a grand success eternally - not temporarily like the flickering so so-called success of this material world - by returning back to home, back to Godhead.

Thought For The Day: Beware of False Gurus

Kaunas, Lithuania

We are presently in the Kali Yuga, the age of quarrel and hypocrisy. This is an age when cheating and false propaganda are running rampant all over the world. This cheating is manifest in all aspects of society: business, political, spiritual, education, entertainment, inter-personal relationships, etc. Thus in the matter of self-realization it is extremely easy to be misguided by charlatans who advertise themselves as bona fide spiritual masters. I know this very well from my own personal experience of being grossly misguided by gurus who said that we are all God and by a guru who charged me an initiation fee and gave me a mantra that had no potency to deliver from the realm of suffering, i.e. this material world. But by God's grace because I was sincerely seeking His merciful guidance I was blessed by being connected with a bona fide spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who has totally transformed my life by delivering me from the realm of endless suffering and taken me into the realm of unlimited eternal spiritual bliss.

He most mercifully accepted me as his disciple in a letter he wrote to me from London, England on 12 August 1971 giving me the spiritual name "Sankarshan Das," which means "servant of the incarnation of God named Sankarshan." Later on when reading in the Srimad Bhagavatam (Chapter Summary of the 5th Canto, Chapter 25) I discovered that "Sankarshan" means "one who attracts all living beings," I became very much happy and satisfied because this has always been my desire from the very beginning of my spiritual life, to attract the whole world to Krishna consciousness.

Answers According to Vedic Wisdom

Question: How to Respond to Those Who Deny Authority?

Namaste Swamiji.

My heartfelt gratitude and respect to you and the ISKCON community. I just have one question. Sometimes people around me try to provoke me by saying all gurus and communities are false and I should not believe in any of them. Should I answer these people, and if yes, then how?

Shubham Bansal

Answer: Deny Their Authority

From: Kaunas, Lithuania

My Dear Shubham,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

According to their philosophy all gurus are false. Guru means one who gives you instructions. Therefore according to them their instructions are false and should not be followed. Because they deny all authority, their authority should also be denied, according to their philosophy.

So you can tell them that according to their teachings they are teaching falsely and that therefore you will follow their advise not to listen to them.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Thought For The Day: Living in the Transcendental Dimension

Kaunas, Lithuania

This material world is not our real home. This is why we are not satisfied with this world's mandatory cycle of birth, death, old age, and disease. Our real position is that we are beings from the transcendental dimension where all forms of misery are conspicuous by their absence. By practicing bhakti yoga, the ultimate self-realization system, anyone in any part of the world can realize the highest truth and experience within himself the greatest happiness at every minute. While living in the transcendental dimension within, he will be able to simultaneously deal most expertly and successfully with the external temporary material world.
